More Than Friends

Lena's Party

"Alex!" Kara called from her closet for her big sister. Alex walks over to her sister and hugs her from behind, putting her chin on Kara's left shoulder. "What do you need honey?" Alex Asked kindly. "I don't know what to wear." Kara sighed flopping back on her bed.

Alex knew why Kara was frustrated, because Lena would be there, and Kara had had a crush on Lena since the day they met.

Alex went through Kara's closet and pulled out a pretty white dress that went down to Kara's knees and a pair of white heels to match. "Here. You look fantastic in white." Alex smiled at her younger sister.

"Thanks Alex." Kara grinned. She grabbed her dress and the heels and went into the bathroom to change.

Alex sat on Kara's bed waiting for her to finish changing already dressed and ready to go. Kara was taking a bit so Alex decided to text Maggie.

Alex: Hey love, are you ready for Lena's party?
Maggie: Yeah. I'm excited to see you, I've missed you.
Alex: I've missed you too, babe.
Maggie: Call me when you are leaving Kara's apartment.
Alex: Okay, I will. Love you, Sawyer.
Maggie: Love you too, Danvers.

Just as Alex and Maggie finished texting, Alex heard Kara curse loudly. "Kara, I'm coming in." Alex opened the door and saw Kara sitting on the toilet, trying to put on her mascara, that she accidentally spilled on the counter. "Oh Kara," Alex chuckled "here let me help." Alex says getting a towel and cleaning the mascara off the counter and then the small amount of mascara that had dropped onto Kara's hand.

"Thanks." Kara sighed "Alex?" "Yes, honey?" Alex looked up at Kara."Can you finish my makeup?" Kara pleaded, pouting her lip and making puppy eyes."Of course." Alex replied.

Alex wiped off the mascara on Kara's eyelashes already so she could start over. "You did it wrong." she said bluntly. Alex started looking through Kara's makeup bag and started laughing. "Kara, you realize this is hairspray, not setting spray right?" Alex laughed "What?!" Kara laughed grabbing the hairspray from Alex. "Oops."

Eventually Alex finished Kara's makeup and she looked gorgeous. Alex was really good at doing makeup Kara admitted to herself. Then Kara realized that she would see Lena soon and the butterflies went wild in her stomach. Kara looked at the time, 7:12. "Crap." She muttered under her breath. "Alex grab your purse, we're going to be late." Kara huffed.
Kara and Alex got to the party at 7:53. Maggie was waiting for Alex while playing pool.

Alex ran up to Maggie and hugged her from behind, "Maggie!" Alex beamed. Maggie turned around and grinned from ear to ear. "Hey sweatheart." Maggie said, right before kissing her girlfriend she hadn't seen in a week. Kara followed from behind, letting the girls have their moment, and then stepped in to hug Maggie. "Hi Maggie." Kara smiled. "Hey, Little Danvers" Maggie chuckled. "Have you x-rayed for Lena yet?" Maggie teased. Kara blushed, "No." she replied embarrassed, but she didn't have to search, because Lena was already walking her way. "Kara! I'm so glad you came. All this business talk is boring me to death." Lena said hugging Kara. "Lena! You started me." Kara laughed. Lena chuckled.

Lena was so relieved Kara had come. She had been waiting for her, it all she could do was talk about her business, which is not what she had wanted to do. Lena threw to party to celebrate the new year, but considering she had such little friends in National City, she didn't have much of anyone to invite. At most there were 17 people there. When Kara arrived she was so happy, she had grown quite fond of the girl, of her smile, of her eyes, of the way she talked, how she laughed. Lena was smiling just by thinking about her, but her smile soon disappeared knowing that she and Kara could never become anything more than friends, no matter how much she hated to admit it, no matter how much she wanted to be with her, it didn't matter. Lena knew quite well that Kara wouldn't want to have to deal with Lena's baggage, the baggage that caused Lena to cry herself to sleep every night, the baggage that made Lena feel hated because of her adopted brother, Lex. The baggage that made it difficult to allow anyone to go as far as touch her leg. The baggage that made her wish she had never been born sometimes.

Lena was snapped back into reality by a familiar voice that she loved. "Lena? Are you okay?" Kara asked reaching out to squeeze Lena's arm. Lena flinched but she didn't shrug Kara away. "Yeah, thanks I was thinking." she said smiling weakly. Kara gave Lena a look that said stop screwing with me, I know something is wrong. Lena gave Kara a look that said I wish I could tell you now but I can't. Kara gave Lena a look that made Lena warm inside. She sighed and leaned over to give Kara a hug. She stayed like that for about a minute.

Alex and Maggie saw Kara and Lena hugging. They both smiled. "30 bucks says they end up dating." Maggie offers. Alex looked over at Maggie. "No, because you're gonna win!" Alex said elbowing Maggie in the arm softly.

Lena whispered into Kara's ear, "We'll talk when everyone leaves. You can pretend to be drunk so you can come home with me and we can talk." Then she released Kara from their hug and Kara laughed.
Kara knew that Lena's family was screwed up, but Lena on the other hand, was a perfect human being to Kara. She couldn't imagine someone more beautiful.

Kara knew that Lena had been hurt many times because of her past. Kara had a feeling one of those problems was because her adopted family found out Lena was bisexual. Kara could easily picture Lillian Luthor being a homophobe, scolding Lena endlessly for liking girls, grounding her, abusing her. Kara shook her head in disgust, how could anyone ever do that to a person. Kara knew well that Lena was not straight, she'd accidentally 'slipped up' in front of her mother and Kara making a joke about being gay during a dinner they had. Her mother dragged Lena to the restroom in Lillian's home and Kara used her superhearing to listen to what they were saying. Lillian was yelling at her daughter, and honestly Kara didn't need super hearing to hear that. Kara then lowered her glasses and looked passed the door with her x-ray vision just in time to as Lillian slap Lena in the face. Lena hesitantly touched her cheek and winced. Tears started to form in her eyes and Lena stormed out of the bathroom. She grabbed her purse, her sweater, her keys and Kara's hand and left to go to her house. Kara drove them to Lena's penthouse and as soon as they got inside Lena slumped onto her sofa and groaned loudly. Kara sat down next to her and hugged her. Tears started falling down Lena's face rapidly as Lena buried her face into Kara's shoulder.

Kara shook off the memory, not wanting to feel any worse for Lena at the moment. Lena excused herself and went to the bathroom. Kara was anxious to follow her but she decided to give Lena some space. Kara walked over to Maggie and Alex. "Hi." Kara sighed. "What's up Sunshine?" Maggie asked sweetly. "Not much." She lied. Alex could tell something was bothering her but she decided to leave it alone, she could tell Kara didn't want to talk about it.

Two hours later the party started ending. Kara looked around and the only people left were her, Alex, Maggie and Lena. Kara swiftly walked over to Alex and whispered in her ear, "Lena wants to talk to me so I'm going to sleep over at her house." Alex nods and Maggie smirks. Then Maggie leans over to Kara and whispers, "Your really bad at whispering, but have fun." loud enough for Alex to hear. They all started laughing and then Lena walked over. "Hello, ladies. How did you like the party?" Lena said smiling "I was really fun, thanks so much for inviting us." Alex said gratefully. "Oh, don't worry about it. It was a pleasure having you here." Lena said.Maggie and Alex left out the door and Kara stayed behind. "Kara! What happened to the plan?" Lena asked frustrated "Don't worry, I took care of it." Kara reassured her friend, taking Lena's hand in her own. "You ready to go?" Kara asked kindly. "Yeah." Lena sighed.
