Jane woke to the sound of someone knocking on her door. She glanced at the clock that sat beside her bed and it read 3:45pm. Who was at her door? She hadn't ordered anything. She didn't really have any friends, and her rent was paid up for another couple of months. She prayed it wasn't the slut from across the hall again, because she wasn't in the mood right now.
She walked downstairs and to the front door, she wished she had one of those peep holes so that she could look out and see who was there before opening but she didn't have one. Before she could open the door she heard a voice call out her name.
"Shit!" She muttered to herself. It was her mother. What was she doing here? Her and her father stayed two hours away. Looking around her apartment it was a mess and she knew her mother would have something to say about it, but she didn't have time to clean it up. She sighed and opened the door. "Mother, what a pleasant, unexpected surprise"
"Well, darling, it wouldn't have been unexpected if you would have answered your phone, your father and I have been worried sick about you" Her mother stated while walking in and looking around in disgust.
"Speaking of father where is he?" Jane questioned as she removed the blanket off of the sofa so that her mother could sit down. She grabbed three empty ice-cream containers, two spoons and a half a glass of red wine off the coffee table and fast tracked them into the kitchen.
"He is visiting the store, the store being the reason I'm here"
"What do you mean?" Jane questioned as she sat beside her mother.
"Well, your father is too soft to say this to you, you know how he hates to disappoint you" Her mother explained before continuing. "We are worried about you. You haven't been to work going on two months now, you don't answer your phone and you don't have any friends. I know the divorce between William and losing Tyler has been hard on you, you father and I think that it's best if you go to counseling and step down from the manager role, just until you feel better"
"That's nonsense mother, I'm fine" Jane snapped.
"No you aren't sweetie. Now, your father and I have talked about this, it's just until you move on. We think that you should move back home with us, go to a psychiatrist, meet some one new, There's plenty of good looking, well established men back home darling"
"Mother" Jane stated in a tone of annoyance. "I can reassure you, I'm fine. I can take care of my self. I'll go back to work after the thanksgiving holidays, I don't need your help"
"Look around darling, I think you do, it's not healthy to be alone and sit around eating ice-cream all day, your apartment is a mess"
Jane sighed. "I'm not alone mother"
"So you already have a boyfriend?" Her mother questioned somewhat excitedly.
"No" Jane stated and immediately regretted it due to her mother's 'I told you so' Look. "I mean, I have a girlfriend". She lied.
"You do?" It was obvious her mother didn't believe a word she said.
"Yes, I do. In fact she made this mess, I just didn't clean it up because I was going to make her do it when she came back later tonight" She stated while looking around her apartment. She refused to let her mother force her back into her their home. "I know it's soon, but she's been helping me move on from William. She's cute and damn near worships the ground I walk on" Jane added as she crossed her arms over her chest. "I can return to work as the manager after the thanksgiving break, which is Monday Mother"
Her mother sighed. She didn't believe a word her daughter said. She was pretty sure she was just trying to get out of her suggestion. "Alright, Tell you what Jane, I'll tell your father what I've learned today, you come home for the weekend and bring your girlfriend..." Her mother paused waiting for a name.
Shit, what's a girls name. Without thinking because she didn't have time to she blurted out. "Grace" Fuck.
"Well, Bring Grace so your father and I can meet her, then we will make a decision whether or not to keep you home" Her mother stated as she stood from the sofa and gave her daughter a hug and a kiss on the cheek before leaving.
Now alone Jane kicked over the coat rack in anger. Great, just great. Now she would lose her Job and apartment too. Her mother had a way of getting what she wanted, no matter how old Jane was. She was a very dominant person, managing her husband's and her 38 year old daughter's life. Fucking little slut Grace, all of this was her fault. She'd already lost her Husband and son, she wasn't going to lose her job nor her apartment. She got her into this mess, she was going to help her get out of it. With no other choice Jane picked up her calf length coat and tied it around her before exiting the apartment and making her way across the hall.
Grace was going to help her whether she liked it or not.
Author's notes: So tell me guys, do you feel bad for Grace?
