To his relief, yet worrisome surprise, it is not him. Aidan takes out his knife from the side of his boot and stabs the body in the brain as he begins to turn. He now walks outside the broken barrier and looks around to see if he is there, hiding. He can't shout his name, for that wouldn't be very wise of him to do. The Z's may be gone for now, but there are still more out there. Not to mention more bandits could be in search of the gunshots being heard. The best thing that Aidan could do is hope and pray that he is out there, alive, and finding his way back.
He gets up, and walks back to the townsfolk, with a worrisome, but stern expression on his face. He stays quiet for a moment, nervous to be talking in front of everyone, but he takes a big deep breath, then speaks to them. "Dear townspeople, We have lost many of our citizens, and great soldiers. The problem is, our mayor, and our glorious leader Marcus, ran away from the Z's that have been following him. So at the moment, he is lost. But he will return to us soon! This I will promise you. So for now, we will rebuild, and wait for Marcus's return." The townspeople stay quiet, and Aidan grows even more nervous, wondering why they are so quiet. Maybe it was something he said? Maybe they don't want to listen to him? These thoughts flood Aidan's head, but Cable steps in front of them all.
"Look, I don't like taking orders from anybody, B-but, if you're sure that this town is worth saving, I will follow you." Then, one by one, two by two, the townsfolk repeat "I will follow you too". Aidan's face turns red in embarrassment, But he smiles as he points his finger to the broken wall, and commands them to help with rebuilding the wall while grabbing the fallen to prepare them with a proper burial. The townsfolk walk over to the broken wall, and help carry their dead to a proper spot before they start piking up the broken pieces of medal and wood. The children are told to wait in the mayor's building while the adults do the work.
While the townsfolk, Aidan, and Cable help rebuild the town, Mark, and Connor continue to run far from the town, not just from the undead, but the people who are also chasing them. Bullets fly in their direction before they see a factory. "Quickly, in the factory building!" Mark shouts as he runs with Connor. Without hesitation, they run as quickly as possible to the building while avoiding the Z's blocking the way. As they avoid as many zombies as they could, trying not to waste ammo, successfully reach inside the building.
The two take a breather before they turn on their tactical flashlights with a pistol in their other hand. The dark building is quiet, empty, and dead. "Stay on your guard Mark." says Connor. "There could be some Z's or worse in this building." He nods his head as they continue to walk throughout the building, watching each other's backs, looking at the ground, around the corners, and under the equipment to make sure there are no "surprises". Before they could say anything that it was clear, a shadow comes from nowhere and knocks the two unconscious, making a loud thud heard across the now not empty building.
