Chapter twenty-four: Heartbreak
(RYDERS POV)
I couldn't confront her. I shouldn't have kissed her, and I certainly shouldn't have strung her along. She wasn't another one of my girls... she wasn't. Still, I treated her like one.
I'd been in my room for hours. Mulling over what to do. I didn't expect to get her back, I did, however, expect her to hear me out. I left my room and spotted Harriett leaving her room, smiling like an idiot.
"What's wrong with you weirdo?" I asked, trying my hardest to be myself. She looked at me and her smile dropped. Even my sister doesn't like me anymore. What's new?
"Nothing. It's nothing." She looked at me for a moment, "where are you going?" She asked. I cleared my throat and remained still.
"Going to talk to Alex." I said bluntly.
She scowled at me, "you aren't." Harriett walked towards me and stopped directly in front of me, "she doesn't want to see you."
I didn't show it, but that hurt. It hit me hard. I'd done this, I'd drove her away. Lexi helped. I couldn't blame this on Lexi though, I should've pushed her away, scolded her for hurting-
"RYDER!" Harriett stomped on my foot.
"Ow Harriett, you bitch." I hissed. I looked up at Harriett and noticed the one person I really didn't want to see. Mom.
"Ryder Bailey Moore. You apologise to your sister right now." She growled, trotting towards me with her clutch pressed to her side, "I never want to hear that language from you," she looked at Harriett, "or you. Ever again. Not under my roof." She glared at me and stormed off to Logan's room. Kissing him goodbye before she heads out to work probably.
I caught a glimpse of Harriett's smug face, "keep smiling H." I said sweetly, "really makes you look prettier." She looked stunned for a moment, "you know what they say, if you have two faces. At least make one of them pretty." Just like that, she lashed out. Storming into her room and slamming the door behind her. Well, that worked out well.
I skipped down the stairs, my nerves building. Just as I turned the corner to the small hallway I was called away.
"Ryder." Bennett called. I turned to look at him, "look, I'm going to the skate park for a while. You down?" I shook my head. "What's wrong bud?." He said, crossing his arms over his large chest.
"I've made a mistake Ben." I said softly, "I-i kissed a girl right in front of Alex...she and I-" I broke off, my brother would be disappointed in me.
"Listen bro," he placed his hands on my shoulders, "when you really care for someone... you couldn't imagine yourself ever hurting them." Here we go, "I have never done anything to Kath. Ever. She is my end, my beginning, my world." He looked me dead in the eye, "you wouldn't have hurt her like that if you could ever love her." He walked off. Waving.
He was right. I barged down the hall and burst into Alex's room. She was alone, sitting on her bed with her phone in hand. She looked... happy? She was glowing. Her smile lit up the entire room.
"Alex." I said pointedly, she glared at me when she saw me, but she didn't make a move to obstruct, "I know... that if I really cared for you and loved you from the bottom of my heart. I wouldn't have hurt you. I'm sorry for that, I didn't mean for you to feel that way, or see that. I'm not a good guy, you know it. I'm bad for - not just you - everyone. So please, I'm using our Bargain and I'm telling you,"
She looked at me with wide eyes. He face was pale.
"Be in love with the guy who deserves you."
I swallowed hard.
"Be in love with Ace."
