Chapter 10 - Altering Moments

She knew. Oh God, she knew. And come to think of it, Sky didn't even give Clare a glimpse.

She looked angry and hurt. Like she was ready to hit me with a brick.

"It was you?" she says, her voice laced with venom.

I mustered up all my will power to explain to her what just happened. Her eyes started to become watery and I felt egocentric. I was only thinking about myself and I didn't even think about what Clareece felt.

I took a deep breathe and said "Clare... I know I haven't been totally honest with you and I..."

But before I could even explain my selfish actions, she stood up to leave.

"Clare, please hear me out?" I pleaded.

She turned to me, her eyes glared at me and if looks could kill, I certainly would be dead by now.

"Dont." she said coldly and turned to walk away.

And that was the day she joined the cheerleading varsity and became popular. The day she promised to ruin my life.

After Clare had ignore all my constant attempts to rekindle our affinity, I started going out with Sky and eventually started dating on July 4th.

"Chloe.." he said.

We were at a party held by one of Sky's close friend. He was hugging me lightly by the waist,  pressing his forehead against mine.

Our heated breathe mingled in the cold night.

We had some privacy, we were at the backyard of someone else's home. Strictly off limits but hey, what's the fun if you follow the rules right?

My hand was now touching his blonde perfect hair. He pulled me closer as I cupped my hands to his nape.

We were close, just a few inches apart. I couldn't concentrate on anything and everything except Sky was a blur.

"Chloe?" he says breathlessly.

"Yeah?" I say, just as breathless as he is.

He pressed his lips against my ear and said "This is my first time."

"First time for what?" I ask, wrapping my arms around him.

He smiles and says "Asking a girl to go steady with me."

Before I could say anything else, fireworks started to light up the sky. Perfect timing.

"I want you to be my girlfriend." he says as he pulls me closer.

I didn't say anything, instead I kissed him. It was beautiful and wonderful. It was jolting, it made me feel alive and breatheless.

As we stopped and rested our foreheads on each other, he smiles and says "So was that a yes?"

I laughed and kissed him again. I felt him smile in between the kisses we shared that beautiful night.

It was perfect. Everything was perfect, up until that dreadful night.

The beginning of the end.
