In which Keith doesn't know how to decipher nor deal with feelings and Pidge gets hit on (cause my salty child deserves the world)
"It's not that bad" Shiro called from across the house, the thick smell of smoke wafting in bursts of scent, forming a blanket of heat and unbreathable air. Before Keith could get up and hang himself with his work tie, Shiro bursted from the kitchen with none other than their shared coffemaker, reduced to nothing but melted plastic and burnt coffee grinds.
The front door was nearly ripped off it's hinges as calloused hands flung the aforementioned coffee maker clean across the front yard, smashing with a resonating crack before sizzling in the morning dew. Instead of light seeping from the doorway and windows it was only moths and the sound of crickets to greet the Kogane brothers, the sky still dark due to it only being five in the morning.
"So, it looks like we aren't having coffee" Shiro muttered, slumping against the doorframe with a loud sigh, the bags under his eyes making him look much older than he really was. Ever since Allura stopped visiting the house the older Kogane hasn't been doing all that well, more night terrors and panic attacks swarmed the ex-soldier's sleep without the vivacious woman for company. No matter how much Shiro denied the accusations, Keith knew that was the reason why, and it was beginning to affect his own sleep as well.
"You'd better get going Keith, the first day of work is always the most stressful" Takashi sighed, running a hand through his messy hair, failing to notice the tag of his shirt popping out from beneath his chin, it was on backwards. Worry swarmed the younger brother, putting a hand on his hip before glaring at the oldest with haste, "Shiro, while I'm gone I want you to video chat Allura, she already told you it was fine before she went to see her family".
Redness quickly spread across Shiro's face, seeping from pale cheeks to his neck in a flourish of color, only giving Keith a wave in response. With a roll of his eyes, Keith quickly grabbed his keys and helmet, heading out into the world before the sun has even arisen.
The neighborhood was deathly quiet, normally busy front yards being vacant except for a few toys left carelessly by children, one lawnmower was going nearby as an elderly couple began doing yard work. Violet eyes glanced over to the side, looking at the two story black and while house with distaste, remembering who lived there with burning hatred. Deciding not to ruin his unusually neutral mood, Keith rushed over towards his motorcycle, slamming his helmet on a lot harder than necessary.
Just as the bike was started and its owner was beginning to pull out the small driveway, movement caught his vision, helmet clad head whipping over fast enough to cause whiplash. Walking down their driveway was none other than Lance, Keith's now sworn enemy (or rival as Lance had begun to call it), he was in what looked like a bathrobe, but it may as well be a dress based on how short the fabric was. Baby blue silk reached about mid-thigh on long tan legs, feet nestled within a blue pair of slippers with what looked like a lion's head on the front, brown hair rustled and messy from a good night's sleep.
Something vibrated within Keith's chest and it wasn't the rumble of his bike, it seemed more like his heart was doing the unusual movement, which startled the ravennette into gassing the vehicle quickly. Tires skidded along asphalt as the bike reared into the air like a wild stallion, swerving dangerously into the road as Keith gave a resounding wail, nearly eating cement as the motorcycle came to a screeching halt. The mask on the front of his helmet was now foggy due to the heavy breathing beneath, eyes blown wide as they carefully looked backwards at their neighbor.
Keith may have been half blind underneath the safety device but he most certainly could hear the cackling nearby, cheeks flaring up in embarrassment and irritation. Being a natural antisocial introvert, the younger Kogane quickly got away from the awkward situation, rubber burning about as hot as Keith's cheeks as he drove down the street. Through the roaring of the bike and blood in his ears, the male could have sworn he heard Lance yell something at his retreating figure, it was dismissed.
