Chapter Sixteen

So I was originally going to have a chapter 15.5 but when I looked at it as a whole, well all I can say is it just would have slowed the story down too much. Things just need to pick up! And so they shall! Oh you'll see what I mean. Maybe I'll post that part sometime and call it 'The Lost Chapter of Jenna and Shane'. Did that give away too much.... hmm maybe. Then again, maybe not *smiles innocently*

It may have been only one night since our little carnival adventure. Nikita still hadn’t heard much from either Shane or Jenna, until very recently.

“So are they alright? What happened?”

“Oh they are completely fine,” Nikita sounded like she was pacing back and forth in her room.

I waited for the answer. Lately Nikki and I had been calling each other as if we were best friends. I suspect that was what happened. I never had a ‘best friend’ before. Don’t get me wrong, there had been close calls in a sense but it’s just never happened before. There was just so much I was still learning from here.

Never had I allowed myself to be open (besides with Matt) to anyone before. Not even Sean knew some of the things I’d shared with Nikki. For example my brother and I didn’t get along because he was something of a borderline homophobe.

Some things just can’t be helped.

At least Sean knew I was quite a Linkin Park fan. I was listening to some kind of remix right now at this very moment. I just had one earphone in my ear while my right ear was glued to the phone.

“They decided to go for a swim,” she said with slight distaste.

That could mean anything.

“Nikki?”

“Oh you know the kind that involves chorine and somebody else’s swimming pool.”

I made a face at the phone before placing it back over my ear, “Now that’s not very fair.”

She hesitated.

“Nikki, I think you’re just feeling a bit left out is all. From what I gather, you three don’t talk as much as you used to.”

“You noticed huh,” she sighed over the phone and I heard the floor creak under her feet. That was the spot in front of her television. Funny huh? How I just knew that? That’s because I can be pretty observant.

“At least they’re ok,” I said gathering my things before my five mile jog. “But where were they?”

Nikki smacked her lips or something before she said, “They fell asleep in each other’s arms.” I just felt more was coming so I waited, though eagerly. “They were caught by the home owners and were chased off the property. Serves them right!”

I had a different idea obviously, “Aw, that sounds super romantic!”

I could tell Nikki was distracted by her hesitation.
