The news Alex just delivered left me winded and spell bound it was a miracle I hadn't passed out as my breath was caught in my throat. I kept thinking it's a joke right? But his expression disagreed. Holding fast to the kitchen counter I helped myself sit before finally looking back at the harbinger of bad news.

"How? When? What's he gonna do to her?" I asked all at once with my thoughts still in a jumble.

"I really dunno how or when but we're gonna get her back okay?"

"Get her back? Oh my God my dad's going to kill me, I should've watched her more, shouldn't have let my grudge get in the way...."

Before I could panic any further he crouched in front of me and held my head in place so I couldn't look anywhere else but him.

"We're going to get her back Denise. I promise you that" He stated staring intently into my eyes several emotions played across his face but his eyes just held my steadfast.

"How're you going to do that eh? You can't go against him by yourself" I asked as soon as we broke our contact.

"Who said anything about going alone? I'm not some dumb dumb Denise"

"I never implied it but that was clearly the case when you got yourself mixed up with him in the first place then dragging me into your shit!"

"Denise we shouldn't be biting each other’s head off right now okay? Your cousins life is most definitely at stake here and you want to discuss my past?!" He yelled clearly exasperated.

"God knows I'd rather not have you mixed up with this but fate just has a way of fucking shit up okay? Now the guys and I know Ryan's hideout and we're going to get your cousin out even if we have to smash through the gates of hell to get there and bring her back safely"

Gates of hell???

If the situation wasn't precarious I would've laughed.

"I'm coming with you" I said quietly
"No. There's no way in hell you're coming with!"

"She's my cousin. My family. You have no right to make that decision. I'm coming with you to get her back and that's it" I held my own against him with sheer determination. With one look at me he knew I wasn't going to back down so instead just sighed.

"What about Kaylee? Who's gonna look after her? Unless you want to put her in arms way as well?"

"Of course not. She's staying over at her friends and you would know if you'd bothered to babysat like you're being paid for" I snorted.

"Yeah whatever. I'm gonna call the guys over and we're going to formulate a plan since we can't exactly go in there guns blazing"

"You have guns?!" I shrieked and he just rolled his eyes.

"It's a saying." He said in a tone that clearly suggested I was the dumb one. I wouldn't exactly put it past them to own a gun, to be honest at this stage nothing can surprise me anymore.

“And I’m gonna call Alicia and Siobhan seeing as we’re gonna need all the hands we can get” I said pulling out my phone to dial her he seemed to want to say something but thought the better of it.
Yeah keep the thought to yourself mister.
I willed myself to drain all emotions out of my voice and to not sound panicky but it was clearly obvious I failed.
“I need your help Alicia, it’s an emergency” and she just replied with a simple ‘be there in a few’ no questions asked. I texted Siobhan afterwards and got an instant reply.
I heard the front door opening and closing so I went to check it out only to bump into Alex leading Sean and Justin further inside the house, I only nodded to acknowledge their presence the told them, majorly Alex that Alicia and Siobhan are on their way.

“Do you really want to get them involved in all this” he asked as we all sat down to wait excluding him.

“That’s entirely up to them. I’m not going to demand they help. I’m leaving the choice up to them whatever they choose I’ll be fine with it” this said he stared – I hate that he does that a fucking lot, it’s like he’s trying to read my mind just by looking- at me for a while then sat beside me on the couch his arm reaching out to pull me into him in a side hug. I heard Justin clear his throat but ignored him and snuggled further sighing.

This is absolutely not the time to get butterflies in my stomach.

No one said a thing afterwards as we all sat in tense silence waiting on the girls it was evidently clear everyone was lost in their personal musings. I looked to Sean and Justin thinking about their undying loyalty to Alex even though I’m pretty sure he’s a shit friend to have but loyal all the same. I dunno how they did it but Alicia and Siobhan showed up at the same time.

“What’s going on?”

“Is everything all right” they both asked at the same time when I answered the door I thought about a serious reply but couldn’t come up with anything so I shook my head, forced a smile and motioned for them to follow me then led then to were Alex, Sean and Justin where sat waiting. After muttered greetings we set about formulating a plan.

I sat in the passenger’s seat of Justin’s car which Alex drove with my friends in the back seat after an hour of heated arguments and debates we’d come up with a suitable plan. We’d come out to find two very beautiful cars parked outside my house afterwards only to find out they each belonged to Sean and Justin. The driving arrangements had almost caused a fight so instead Justin sighed and threw his keys at Alex telling him not to wreck his “baby” then hopped into Sean’s car. Then Alicia and Siobhan had tried to ditch me to ride with them I had glared real long and hard at the both of them, they’d changed their minds effective immediately.

“So everyone understood the plan, yes?” Alex asked is fingers drumming against the steering while he looked at all three of us and we nodded in response.

“No unnecessary actions just wait for my signal, get in and get out, got it?” we nodded again. We weren’t pre-schoolers.

“Okay lets go” This said we alighted the car then watched Justin and Sean do the same since we’d parked way off from where Ryan’s hideout was it was relatively safe for us to do so then we started hiking to it. It all seems extremely stupid and felt like walking into a den filled with lions but I had to get my cousin away from that psycho she after all still is part of my family.

I know it took a while to put this up but I've been quite busy with this being my final year in university. and all.

I just submitted my project a few days ago so all thats left is to write my final exams and defend the said project before getting my BSc. 💃🏽

Sorry the chapter is a bit short, I've had writers block for over a year now and this is the best I could do.

I'll try to update soon but I'm not promising.
