Year 4442 of the world with 7 moons
Chapter 1
Simon woke to someone sliding under the sheets. He did not bother opening his eyes, for he already knew who it was. Maddy snuggled up to him, his head resting on his chest. Simon put an arm over him and felt Maddy relax.
It was quiet in the room as the boys laid together, one taking comfort in the touch of the other and the other trying not to open his eyes and examine what the monsters damage was this time.
Simon was about to ask how bad it was, but Maddy’s breathing had fallen to a steady pace of sleep. Not wanting to wake him Simon sighed and tried not to think about the monster and what he did.

Simon woke to rustling in his room, then someone pulling back the curtains to the window. “Ass,” Simon grumbled and pulled the covers over his head, but his best friend was not having it.
“Come on lazy but, it’s time for school,” and Maddy tour the covers from his grasp.
Simon growled, witch reminded him the full blue moon was next Thursday. He sat up rubbing his eyes then looked at the ass hole in his room.
Maddy was fourteen and stood at five foot ten; his hair was brown like mud, eyes gold and kin tanned. There was a bruise on the side of his face wear his jaw was, and a cut on his eye brow. Simon debated what to do as his friend rummaged through his laundry basket for socks to wear.
“Take off your shirt,” Maddy tensed for a second then went back to looking for socks. “Maddy,” Simon growled “Take off the fucking shirt.”
“Its fine,” Maddy said calmly “Nothings broken.”
Simon stood, crossed the room and grabbed Maddy above the elbow and turned him around. Simon was only a centimeter or two shorter then Maddy so looking him in the eyes was easy. “Maddy, please.”
Maddy pursed his lips but finally complied, removing the t-shirt and revealing purple blue skin covering most of his abdomen and chest. “Really nothings broken, I swear.”
The words only made Simon angrier because it reminded him that the monster has broken his bones before. What really made him angry was there was nothing he or Maddy could do about it; and adults would not do anything about it.
“Simon.” His friend put a hand on his shoulder, “It’ll be okay, just a year and a half left and I’ll be home free.”
Simon said nothing, but went to his drawer grabbed a pair of pants and a shirt and left to take a shower.
Maddy watched Simon leave and sighed, he hatted how upset he got, but what could he do? Maybe he should not have come over, but after taking a beating he generally needed Simon, and last night was no different.
He wished he was stronger, that he did not need Simon every time it happened. Maddy wished he never dragged his best friend into it, but he had.
Simon had been friends with him before his mom had passed away. He knew how many fights Maddy got in and knew when the bruises he received wear not from the fights.
Maddy’s mom passed away when he was ten and the beatings started only three weeks after her funeral. The first time it happened, Simon instantly knew. He grabbed Maddy and demanded to know what was wrong. For almost a month Maddy just lied, but every time it happened Simon somehow knew it was not from a fight.
