Chapter 10
Simon was watching the video again.

“Simon,” Maddy took a deep breath then gave a week smile. “I have a feeling that I will never see you again. Agent Pelt thinks he’ll be able to get to me in time but well,” He shrugged. “I just wanted to say that I love you.” He clenched his teeth and shut his eyes and took a gasping breath, trying not to cry. “I'm not making it to sixteen, to be an adult that can go were ever, whenever I want. And I want you to please, please forgive me.”
He ran his hands through his hair. “I don’t have much more to tell you.” He looked up, “Oh yah,” he smiled, “I finally have a crush on some one. Can you guess?” he laughed “Sugar. I know that you don’t like her much, but I think I’m in love with her man.” He laughed again.
Maddy went back to a somber face and swallowed. “I’m really sorry Simon; I know you tried so hard for me. You wear the only one besides my mom who truly loved and cared about me and sorry that I can’t be there for you.” Maddy paused again and shut his eyes tight, a tear slid down his face.
“I love you,” he said, his voice cracking, “So please don’t be mad at me that I went and did this,” another deep breath. “I’m going to go to my heavenly father, please tack your time in meeting me up here okay.” Maddy nodded his head, “Okay. Oh” he said in after thought, “I want to be buried under my father’s name, I don’t want to be a Black Paw any longer. He nodded his head again. “Good by Simon.” Then the camera shut off.

Simon let the tears fall for the first time. He was to empty to cry at the funeral, to empty after the trial wear he found that Ryan Black Paw would be let off with nothing but a warning.
He remembered the day too clearly; the agents were having a hard time taking on Thing Two and the others. Thing One came out and he joined the fight, but eventually the agents got the criminals secured. The one he now knew as Agent Pelt went running into the warehouse.
Simon had a really bad felling and he followed the agent into the building. There he saw his worst fear. Maddy lay motionless on the floor as the Monster continued to kick him. Simon knew at that moment that Maddy was dead. Simon did not remember much else but Sugar told him when he regained conciseness that he had ripped off his clothes, shifted, and then attacked Ryan Black Paw, putting him in a hospital.
Simon hatted that he put him in a hospital, because he deserved to be in a morgue. Simon screamed and threw the TV remote at the wall. How the hell did that monster get off? He tried to find out, but Agent Pelt and Sugar Runner were at as much a loss as he was.
“Simon,” Sugar’s voice came from the door way.
He did not bother looking; he did not want to talk to anyone. He wanted Maddy, he needed his best friend, and he would never have him again. “Simon,” she said again coming in front of him. “I know you don’t want to hear this, but you have a right to know.”
Simon looked up then and saw both Sugar and Agent Pelt. Pelt looked guilty as hell, Simon knew he hatted himself for letting Maddy die, and a part of Simon hatted him too. “Black Paw got off because one, he gave a great sum of money to the people heading the case so that the video of him killing Maddy never got into triel, and two, because he was willing to give even more information on the ruinners that proved a great help.”
“He’s a Monster, it doesn’t matter what he does, he deserves to be executed!” Simon stood.
“I’m not saying it’s right,” Pelt continued, “I’m just saying what it is. Whoever he paid off is high enough up that it doesn’t matter how much we protests. I’m sorry.” Agent Pelt left then and Simon slumped back onto the couch.
“I’m so sorry Simon.”
“Hand me the remote.”
Sugar complied and handed him the remote and he rewound the video till it got to Maddys confection and played it. He looked over as Sugar watched, tears slid down her face. “I’ll never forget that,” she said with a cracked voice. “I’ll never forget him,” she put her head between her legs, “I’ll never forget Maddy.”
“Neither will I,” Simon said, “And I’ll make sure that he did not die in vain.”
