I was helping the boy make it over to the nurse, but I had to stop when he said he didn't know me. That's not me being narcissistic, I just really wasn't expecting it. In fact, I actually love it that he didn't know me, it makes me want to get to know him even more.
Why did I want to be his friend so much? I guess he's just interesting.I told him my name and he took a moment with almost a look of surprise on his face.
"I-I'm Julian." He said with a cute expression. Wait... What?
Did I just think that? Nah, that doesn't sound like me. "Well, Julian, you've just made a new friend."
He nodded. "Cool, but umm, can we deal with my ankle or are we gonna be in the hall talking for the next two periods?"
I laughed a little and started walking down the hall again. "Alright, but I want your number when we get to the nurse."
"Huh, last time a guy asked me for my number it wasn't exactly in a friendly way." Julian laughed. "Or you could say it was too friendly."
"When was this? Recently?" I asked.
He nodded. "Well I only just recently started driving, so yeah, it's not easy to get to a club without driving."
"A club?!" Julian, you miscreant. You rebel. Wait, does that mean I could convince him to come to one of my parties?
His eyes widened. "Please don't tell anyone! If I'm reported going to a club, they'll kick me off the team! Please!"
I could never report someone this innocent with such a look on their face. I mean really, I don't think anyone could report Julian with the face he's making right now. "I won't report you, don't worry. But I do want you to hang out with me in return."
"Anything, anything at all!" He said, looking ecstatic that I agreed.
"I'll keep that in mind." I said as I opened the nurses office. "Hello? Student in need here."
A woman popped her head out from under a desk. "Romeo? What are you doing here? Oh no, Julian, did you get beat up or something?" She asked as she got up and walked over.
"No, the sports finally took me down, Miss Ingrid. They got me good. I may even be exempt from gym class if it's bad enough." Julian responded.
"Well I doubt they'd want such a pessimist on the field anyways, so it's a win-win." She laughed. "What exactly happened?"
I looked down at Julian's ankle. "Well, he kinda got tackled. By three guys. His small fragile body just couldn't take it and it looks like his ankle got twisted."
"I'm not that fragile." The boy mumbled in my arms.
Miss Ingrid looked at Julian's ankle, him wincing when she took it in her hands. "Hmm, it doesn't look good, that's for sure. You should probably have a real doctor look at this."
"Don't downgrade yourself, you are a real doctor." I said.
The nurse looked at me with a smirk. "Honey, if I was a real doctor, I'd be able to prescribe more than hand sanitizer and a trip home."
"I could use a trip home." Julian said. "I am in fact, quietly screaming in pain."
"Alright, I'll call your mom. Romeo, can you sit with him for a few minutes?" She said.
I nodded and brought Julian over to one of the beds, gently setting him down. "How are you holding up?"
"Horribly." He said. "I'm in pain, I'm uncomfortable, and I'm gonna be going home and could even miss practice tomorrow."
"Seems like you're very dedicated to this team you've been talking about. What exactly is it, because I can't see you in a sport." I asked.
Julian laughed. "Right, you aren't much for intellectual sports. I'm on the academic competition team. We go to other schools and prove that we're smarter than them."
I smiled at his confidence. "Well, I can see you being good at that. Oh, I almost forgot to get your number!"
Pulling out my phone, I opened my contacts list and handed the phone to him. Julian started typing in his information, stopping at a certain point and thinking for a bit. He handed me back my cell after finishing, a smirk on his face. I looked at what he had typed and almost laughed.
"Your cellphone, home phone, email, second email, Facebook, address, and emergency number. Don't you think that's a little much?" I asked.
He shook his head. "Nope. I figure that you might as well have a way to contact me if you really want to."
"And why'd you put your name as Athena?" I questioned with a raised brow.
He smiled with what seemed like pride. "Athena was the Greek goddess of wisdom and battle strategy, as well as knowledge to some extent. She was seen as the smartest of the Olympians and one of the strongest. Plus, my last name is Athens, so it just fit."
"Well that makes sense, I can see why you chose it, Athena." I said with a smirk.
I think that Julian may have blushed. "Shut up." He quietly said.
I can't help but smile at that. I think we'll be great friends. "I'm gonna be at your house this weekend if you don't show up to school tomorrow."
"Why? Do you think I can't keep up with my school work just because I'm not here? You seriously underestimate me." He said smugly, but then his eyes widened. "Damn it... I told Warren that I'd sit with him at lunch..."
"I'm sure he'll understand if you don't show up. He was in the gym with us, so it's not like it'll be a complete surprise." Hopefully that makes him feel better about not meeting Warren. "So, are you and him..?"
Julian looked at me for a moment, but just began giggling after figuring it out. "Nah, I'm a single pringle. Why do you ask?"
"No reason, just curious."
How is he single? He's great! Funny, smart, small and adorable.
What's not to love?
