It's been a week since the party. Jesse has kept into contact and the others added me on Facebook. But I haven't heard from Lucas at all. I push away the hurt clutching at my chest.
No Rae you don't care. You don't know him. Don't let him hurt you.
I'm acting like a girl with a crush.
You like him the voice in my voice says mockingly.
No I don't fuck off voice in my head. Great. Now I'm talking to myself.
Plugging in my earphones, I lay back on my bed. I haven't seen Kiara either as she's been constantly hanging out with Asher. I guess you're always replaceable.
Faintly, I hear shouting coming from downstairs. Rolling my eyes, I take out an earphone, straining to hear.
"Why aren't you going to be here for dinner?" Mum screams.
"I told you: I have to meet with a client tonight!" Dad screams back.
I gulp loudly. It's happening again. I shouldn't be surprised. My parents are always going off at each other. Any conversation between them is an argument. Out in public they act like a happy couple; as if their lives are perfect. But behind closed doors is where the truth lies. Where they constantly scream at each other. Despite the fact they constantly argue, I bet they won't get divorced.
But of course, the Blake family must show no signs of weakness. My family is like poetry: the deeper you look, the worse it gets.
"Stop lying to me you bastard!"
"You know what? Forget it. I don't have to explain anything to you."
"Explain anything?" A pause. "I'm your fucking wife James!"
The front door slams and silence cloaks our house. Suddenly it's suffocating to be here.
Tears slowly fall down my face. This is why you don't let anyone in. Because all they'll do is hurt you and leave like you mean nothing to them.
If you don't let anyone close to you, you don't give them the power to hurt you and shatter your heart in a million pieces. Then leave you to try to put the pieces back together.
Angrily, I brush the tears off my face and put my earphone back in, and grab a book, in a desperate attempt to escape from reality.

Hours later, I emerge from the book world and am back to my composed self. I get out my phone and send a text to Kiara, asking her to meet me.
Sorry with Asher. Text you later xx
I glare at my phone. Thanks Kiara glad I can depend on you. Then I realise I have Jesse's number.
Me: Hey, wanna meet up?
Jesse: I'm with Raiden atm come on over
Me: It's okay I don't want to intrude
Jesse: Shut up and get your arse over here
I hesitate, and another text comes through. Lucas and Callan aren't here if that's what you're worried about.
I sigh and text back. Fine. Be there in half hour.
Quickly, I change into ripped skinny black jeans and a fitted blue top.
I jog downstairs, yelling to mum, "I'm going out! Be back later."
"Wait-" Mum starts but I ignore her and run out the house, slamming the door behind me.
Sighing, I start my walk to the bus stop.

Forty five minutes later, I arrive at Jesse's and see them all dressed up. Jesse is wearing a blue skintight dress and black platform heels, her wavy blonde hair tumbling down her back. Raiden has dark wash jeans and a green shirt, rolled up at the sleeves.
Frowning, I glance down at my outfit. "What's the occasion?"
Jesse and Raiden exchange grins. "We're going clubbing!"
"Let Jesse sort your outfit and makeup out. She's a pro. Just don't piss her off and she won't murder you." Raiden winks at me.
"Bitch please." Jesse scoffs. "If it wasn't for me picking your first date outfit you wouldn't have snagged Jordan as your boyfriend."
"Excuse me bitch muffin I've snagged Jordan with my sex god looks and charming personality. Not your personal stylist abilities."
"Bitch muffin?" I inquire, confused.
Jesse rolls her sapphire blue eyes at me. "Don't even ask."
"Hey! It's better than Jesse Caterpillar." Raiden pouts.
Jesse and I just look at him. "That's not difficult." Jesse deadpans. She turns to me. "Come on I'll sex you up."
"Good luck. I'll make sure your funeral is fabulous if you don't return." Raiden winks at me.
"Thank you. I'm gonna need it." I whisper. But I wasn't quiet enough as Jesse shoots me a dirty look. Oops. Note to self: don't piss Jesse off.
In Jesse's room, she tears through her wardrobe. I sent mum a quick text to tell her I'm sleeping over at Jesse's, as I have a feeling I won't be returning home tonight. Not sober.
I tell Jesse and she waves a hand in the air. "That's cool. I was gonna suggest it anyway. Lucas is at Callan's."
I sigh in relief. I won't have to deal with Lucas today. I get dressed in what Jesse throws at me: a skintight black dress which shows off my petite waist. She then moves into my makeup: smokey eyes, dramatic cat eyes, mascara and dark red lipstick.
"Damn if I swung that way I'd fuck you." Jesse winks at me.
Teasingly, I wink. "Dump Callan and we can be together."
"Nooooooooo Jesse Bear! You're leaving Callan for me!" Raiden bursts through the door and collapses at Jesse's feet, grabbing her hands and places them against his chest. "Can you feel it?"
"What? The empty abyss where your heart is supposed to be?" Jesse says straight faced.
Raiden cries out, "No! My heart beating! It beats only for you my love!"
Jesse pulls away. "I'm sorry but Rae is my true love!" She runs and jumps into my arms.
As I'm unprepared for Jesse jumping at me (as well as her declaration of love), I fall back with Jesse falling on top of me.
"BELLYFLOP!" Raiden screams.
"NO!" Jesse and I scream in unison, before a heavy weight crashes on top of us.
"I'm dead." Jesse gasps out.
"I can see the light - wait that's hellfire!" I cry dramatically.
Jesse laughs before rolling off of me, Raiden screeching in shock as he crashes on the floor.
Jesse stand up and offers me her hand. "Come on. Let's go clubbing!"
I take her hand, following her with Raiden at my side. "She's a fucking crazy kinky drunk so help me keep an eye on her." He says.
I nod in agreement. "Oh great help us all."
