Gamble on Love

Chapter Eighteen

It's been a month since I tried getting Lucas back (and failed miserably). I haven't heard from Jesse or anyone else, which makes me sad, but I understand.

I'm slowly healing. I still have a hole in my heart which belongs to Lucas, and always will. Kiara, Cressida and Cassandra have been by my side every step of the way, and I couldn't be more grateful for them.

It's been a strict singles club: no guys whatsoever. Kiara kept Asher away when she hangs out with us, as if scared that I'll start crying or some shit. I tell her that I don't mind Asher hanging out with us but when it's just us four she insists he isn't there.

I am kind of ashamed to admit I did text Lucas a couple of times apologising... and possibly left a drunk voicemail once. Shame on me I know.

I'm in my room binge watching Marvel's The Defenders when the doorbell rings. I frown but can't be bothered to get up and answer it.

However, they have other plans when they repeatedly press down on the doorbell. "For fuck sake! I'm coming!" I yell as I stomp downstairs, flinging open the door.

My jaw drops as I see who it is. "Lucas?"

He smiles at me. "Hey Rae."

I don't reciprocate his smile and fold my arms across my chest. "What the fuck are you doing here?"

His face turns serious. "I couldn't do it anymore."

I quirk an eyebrow. "Do what?" I keep my sentence short and curt.

"I couldn't pretend that I was happy without you. Because I wasn't. I'm not. I'm miserable without you Rae. You're my Rae of sunshine." The blue eyes I love so much stare into mine. "I know I said I couldn't forgive you but I have. And I haven't stopped loving you. I tried but fuck I couldn't. I didn't want to. I want you back in my life. I want you to be my girlfriend again and fall in love with me all over again. But the right way this time. No bets or any of that dumb shit. Just normal dating. Please Rae. Let's give us a proper chance and do this the right way." Lucas begs desperately.

"I can't." I respond.

Lucas's face falls.

"I can't fall in love with you again." I pause then decide to put him out of his misery. "Because I'm still in love with you."

His face lights up, relief flickering across his face. He cups my face in his hands. "Rae will you go out on a date with me?"

I pretend to consider. "I guess I will yes."

Lucas laughs and it's a wonderful sound I've missed so much. "Can I kiss you?"

"Please do." I smile, leaning in and our lips meet.

And everything feels like it's falling back into place, including the broken pieces of my heart.

Not everyone was impressed by my forgiving Lucas and giving us another chance.

"You forgave that fucker? Why?" Cassandra demands, her eyes glaring at me through the Skype video call.

Cressida pops up beside her. "Because she's in love."

Kiara sighs. "You're going to do this whether we like or not, so just be careful okay? Don't let him hurt you again."

I smile reassuringly at them. "I don't think he will. We both made mistakes but we're doing it the normal way. And we'll see how things go. But I won't know unless I try."

They all sigh and nod. "When's the date?"

"Friday." I can't help the goofy smile that spreads across my face.

"We'll come over. Kiara and Cressida can help sort out your makeup and outfit and shit and I'm gonna have a word with that fucker-"

Cressida cuts in. "We'll be over lunchtime and order Domino's."

Kiara nods her assent and we all say bye.

Friday comes around quickly and I'm stuffing my face with Domino's meanwhile Kiara and Cressida argue over my outfit.

"The black jeans are better than the grey-"

"The lace up top is better than the crop top-"

"I'm going to threaten to hack his dick off with a meat cleaver then shove his dick up his arse so he can literally fuck himself." We all look over at Cassandra.

I slowly put my pizza down. "Thanks for that mental image Cass. Greatly appreciated."

Kiara rolls her eyes. "Take a chill pill Cass. This is making Rae happy. And I'm sure she'd like his dick to make her happy too one day-"

"Kiara stop!" Cressida squeals, the innocent one in our group. God knows how with us three around.

I head over to look at the outfits laid out. Pointing to the black jeans and red lace up top, I say, "I'll wear that. Compromise people. Happy?" They both nod and I lay back on my bed. "I wonder what he has planned..."

I'm dressed and just putting on my shoes when the doorbell rings.

We all look at each other before all rushing to the door at once.

Cassandra gets there first. She opens the door and glares at him. "Listen here you fucking-"

Cressida smiles at Lucas. "I'm Cressida and this is my twin Cassandra. Forgive us she's a handful."

Lucas laughs. "My twin sister Jesse is batshit crazy don't worry. I feel your pain."

Kiara appears behind the twins. "Hello again Lucas."

"Hi Kiara. How are you and Asher going?" Lucas politely asks.

"Great thanks!" Kiara answers.

Before we're stuck here forever, I grab my leather jacket and shove past my friends. "Hey Lucas."

He winks at me. "Hey there beautiful. This is for you." He hands me a box of Thornton's chocolates.

I can't stop the grin spreading across my face. "You remembered."

"Of course I remembered." He winks at me, a smirk on his face. "I am-"

"Lucas Rain yeah yeah." I roll my eyes teasingly, before putting the box of chocolates down. "Any of you touch them I'll skin you alive." They all quickly nod. "Good." I turn to Lucas. "Shall we?"

"We shall." He offers me his hand and I take it, following him to his car. He opens the door and I climb in. He closes it then walks around to his side, climbs in, and we drive off.
