Prompt: Virgil x Reader AU

The reader is wandering around at night in the countryside and she sees a silhouette roaming around a nearby house and she goes with the gut instinct to confront the person. As she gets closer, though, the figure runs off and she gets shot by the homeowner (Virgil), not entirely lethal, but enough be lethal if the bleeding didn't stop. He brings her in and takes care of the wound. As she wakes up, he apologizes and explains that the one time he feels brave enough to deal with a "bandit" at night, he ends up shooting the wrong person. She volunteers to deal with them, but he's worried that she's still weak. They bond a little in the day and, when night comes, he sits out on the porch and she decides to join him. Virgil feels anxious and guilty about her decision and she tells him not to worry and that she understands. They talk a bit until they see a silhouette again. They both end up taking the person down and find out it was a cocky neighbor from down the road (Roman) who has been finding it entertaining to mess with Virgil at night.

Y/n yawned as she was walking by her road, the countryside had both it's ups and downs, one of them being that it's a long road to walk if you didn't own a horse or a farm animal to get by on. The air was misty and the sun was setting, one of the best times of the day where it isn't extremely hot, but it's not like super cold either.

The sun had set quickly, people around her living in the Dark oak and pine logs cabins' candle lights lit up, she walked passed one of the many bars as the voices of people were louder than before, Y/n continued to walk past many of the wood buildings, her house felt like miles away from her workplace at the post.

She walked passed a cabin and heard silent sobs coming from it, all the wood didn't keep all the sounds in so it was almost impossible to have any privacy unless you had enough money to get extra padding to cover the walls. Only a high classed couple were able to afford it as of now.

She walked closer, wanting to help her neighbor, but she swore she heard something rustling in the tall grass Y/n ignored it and continued on walking silently closer to the cabin.

The noise echoed again, gaining the person in the cabin's attention, Y/n was right next to the window and the rustling didn't stop, until suddenly,

The noise was replaced with a fast zip through the air, footsteps running in the opposite direction, a bullet had shot her right shoulder, the shock paralyzed her and she collapsed on impact.

She winced in pain, the homeowner hearing her voice rushed out to see her slumped down the wall, Panicked, He picked her up and set her down on the couch, mumbling under his breath on he just shot someone he didn't mean to shoot, and hoping that this woman will be ok, he ran quickly to where he had put the first aid kit and helped her recover.

Bandaging her wound, he also got a blanket for her so she wouldn't get cold for the rest of the night, he decided that she would be sleeping it off so he blew out his candle and went to bed in the next room.

That morning for Y/n was, oh it was painful, she groaned in pain and sat up, now having a massive headache with her bloody arm.

The homeowner had made Coffée/Tea for her,

"I'm uh sorry about me shooting you, I really am, um sorry" He handed her the cup and she sipped it lightly without burning her tongue.

"It's alright, it was me who was transpassing" Y/n reassured,

"Yeah, but you-I didn't have to shoot you, heh, funny how the one time I get confident in using my gun to shoot a bandit, I shoot the wrong person"

Y/n sipped her drink again, "It's alright, If you want I can help deal with them somehow, the name is Y/n L/n by the way, Post Office Senior"

"Virgil Sanders, I volunteer at a ranch, and no you don't have too," They shook their left hands and continued quietly sipping their drink.

"To bad this is the way we met" Y/n giggled, earning a chuckle from Virgil.

"Yeah, you're staying here for the night again, doctors orders," Virgil said, placing his cup in the sink,

"But you said you volunteered at a ranch" Confused, she set her empty mug down,

"It's useful to be trained in first aid" Virgil added and smirked.

The two had bonded together quite well that day when night came along, Y/n's arm was feeling better, well at least she could feel it, the past few hours it was numb.

The day quickly passed by and it was soon the evening, and Virgil decided to sit outside and embrace the cool breeze for once, Y/n stumbled on over to join him.

"I'm still sorry for shooting you" Virgil scratched his neck,

"Hey, It's fine, it is what it is, don't worry about it so much" Y/n gave a reassuring smile.

They talked for a while more about stuff that they can't even remember now, but the sunset was now becoming a soft orange glow on the horizon, the wind was still.

The sound of footsteps was coming closer, this wasn't someone just walking by, this was the bandit!

All was silent then once Virgil and Y/n saw the silhouette Virgil pounced on them, followed by Y/n who kicked them,

"Ouch, Guys! Stop!" Virgil got off of the dude to realize it was just his cocky neighbor across from him, Roman Sheppard.

"ROMAN!" Virgil smacked the back of the guy's head,

"Yes, I believe that is my name yeah?"

"You utter cock." Y/n laughed at their childishness.
