Martyn's POV
After a gruelling week on the 'front lines', we have finally returned to Kim's base. Fortunately, Toby has recovered tremendously and Kim's base has been untouched by Hatfilms attacks. The same, however, can not be said for the rest of us. We have all sustained injuries and our supplies are running low. Worst of all: we still haven't touched a hair on any of the Hats heads! While, yes, we have gained a substantial amount of land and set up traps in case they try to take it back, it's just not as satisfying. So, we have come back to Kim's base to come up with a new strategy and to rest up.Mia's fighting skills are coming along well. I certainly wouldn't be comfortable with letting her fight all by herself, but I feel confident that as long as she sticks with the team, she'll be safe. Everyone is in agreement that Mia should be a ranged attacker, even Duncan doesn't really want her I'm harms way. Yet, for some reason, she goes pale every time I hand her a weapon. It's as if she's repelled from violence and fighting. It's a peculiar trait but one she needs to suppress when fighting is a regular occurrence. As soon as this is over, I'll take her far away and she'll never need to even think about weapons again!
I tap my knuckles in the wood of Mia's door. Her room remains silent so I take the initiative to enter to make sure she's okay. I find her, curled up against her window with her eyes red and puffy. Her shoulders are hunched forwards slightly as water drips onto her knees. I instantly rush over. At the sound of my footsteps, she changes. Her shoulders are pushed backwards and her tears stop flowing but their shadows still remain. Slowly, I place a hand on her shoulders and lift her chin with my other. Her eyes glisten from tears that have yet to fully recede."What's up?" I ask softly, running my fingers down her arm. She pauses, her eyes flicked around as if she can't decide whether to confide in me.
"I don't really want to talk about it." She mutters,
"Mia, please. If you're upset then you need to talk to someone about it, otherwise it'll never really get better." I beg, "it doesn't even have to be me."
"Alright. I suppose I could talk to someone about it. However, for now, I think I would prefer a distraction." She agrees, I wrap an arm around her and smile,
"Thanks. Now, about that distraction, I found a beautiful forest we could walk through." I suggest. Mia smiles and my heart warms at the sight of it. I pull her into a hug and feel her arms embrace me in return. I have to fight against my cheeks to prevent a rosy blush from forming. I can't resist the urge to run my fingers through Mia's silky, soft hair. For a moment, I wish that this moment will never end. I wish that we could stay here, holding each other for the rest of my life.***
Carys/ Mia's POV
"You broke his leg?" I gasp in between laughter. Martyn smiles as we trudge along the dirt. The soft breeze guides my hair to the one side, leaving a few strands in my eyes. I puff out a breath of air in the hopes of displacing the hair. I can't, as I usually would, brush it away with my hands as they are both occupied. In my right hand, I carry a diamond sword just in case we are attacked. While my left is technically empty, I wish to keep it unoccupied. Occasionally, I feel the brush of Martyn's hand as he considers holding mine. My heart is racing faster then a horse! I haven't held someone's hand in... years."Yes I did! Plus I stole his treasure!" Martyn boasts slightly,
"Martyn, I'm not entirely sure that's legal!" I laugh, "Not to mention the thing with the chickens!" I scold, rolling my eyes at his story. We come across an opening in the forest. The trees bend and weave, revealing a hidden pond. Like liquid crystals, the water laps onto the sand surrounding the pool. The water is dusted with lily pads like freckles. Within the water, swims a variety of fish. The colours dance and merge together as if a whole rainbow has been poured into the pool.
"Shall we take a seat, my lady?" Martyn gestures to a checkered picnic blanket with flowers blooming all around.
"Did you do this?" I gasp,
"Well I set up the picnic blanket, but the rest is just the beauty of nature." He explains, finally he takes my hand. My stomach flips. Somehow, my heart beats even faster. Martyn leads me to the blanket and sits me down. My eyes close slightly, despite the beauty it is providing, the blinding sunlight is making it impossible to see. I hear Martyn sigh, "Looks like we need some shade. Duncan is gonna be so mad if he finds out about this."
