Another Guy

I awoke in high spirits; something that doesn't happen very often. I practically jumped out of bed and began getting dressed for school. Looking back, I don't know have been so happy when I had a long day of horrors ahead, but we'll get to that later.

I bound down the stairs after brushing my teeth and hair. My mom had just finished making eggs and greeted me with a big smile, "Well don't you look happy. Is there something happening at school day that I should know about?"

"Uh...no, I guess I'm just really happy," I say, questioning my logic. I was never 'just really happy'. I was usually depressed about something or another, more often than not, a girl a certain girl at school gets on my nerves. But today, I was so happy that I wouldn't let her get in my way.

She laughs, "You? Never!" I guess she picked up on more than I give her credit for. My hand waved over the food that my mom had just made and then began rummaging for the bacon, which was underneath the sausage. I finished breakfast just as the bus arrives.

"See you, mom," I say quickly before grabbing my backpack off the hook and running out the door. I plopped myself next to my friend, Sarapheme, who was looking extremely bored but perked up when she saw me smiling.

"What happened to make you so happy? Tell me everything!" She encourages.

"Nothing, I guess I just woke up on the right side of the bed this morning," I reply.

Her face fell, "Well that's not nearly as fun as some of your other stories. Tell me that one about the universe that treated any outsiders like common criminals." I cringed, slightly, remembering how horrible that one was but obliged anyways.

When I had finished telling her the story, we had arrived at school and we made our way off the bus. We caught up with our friend, Jesse, just as we reached the stairs. He had on a strange smile that I've never seen in the five years that I've known him.

"Hey, guys! You'll never guess what happened!" He says. And there it was, the reason he was smiling so strangely.

"Hmm, let me guess, you finally got onto the school football team," Sara jokes. I snorted.

"Don't be ridiculous," He gives her a quizzical look before continuing, "Another guy has finally registered! Do you know what this means?"

Our school was an all-girl school until just recently and not many guys have registered since. In fact, most refuse to enter because they're not used to going to school with a bunch of girls, which I completely understand because us girls have still not gotten used to the fact that guys are allowed to go to our school. The only reason that we had known Jesse for so long is because he's Sara's neighbor and he used to hang out with us on the weekends because he was bored.

"Really? When does he start?" Sara asks. Any news of a new guy in school, she had to inspect immediately to see if they're dating material. I shook my head, somethings are just not meant to be understood.

"Sometime later today. I wonder if I'll get to meet him," Jesse replies but when he sees the look on Sara's face he added," Well, it would be nice to have another friend that isn't s girl. Besides, I know you get first dibs."

"Yeah, but then you wouldn't hang out with us anymore. If Sara decides she doesn't like him and you do, you'd spend all of your time with him," I pointed out but before he could respond, (hopefully to assure us that he wouldn't do that) the warning bell had rang.
