She had just finished writing today's assignments on the board and doing attendance when the bell had rang, signaling for the start of class. And, of course, the first thing she does, is talk about the new guy."I would like you all to welcome a new student to our class. Kelly, do you mind coming up here and telling us a bit about yourself?" My teacher, Mrs. Bradford asked.
The new guy, Kelly, reluctantly made his way to the front of the room. He took a big, heaving breath before saying, "Hi, my name is Kelly O'Connell. I've grown up home schooled, so I'm not used to this whole 'public school' thing. I love to read and watch horror films in my free time, which is like, never. And my parents and I track down reckless ghosts for a living."
I tried so hard to suppress my laughter that it turned into a snort. I've seen the supposedly 'reality TV shows' that showed people 'catching' ghosts on camera and they were so fake that it was actually funny.
"Excuse me, is there a problem?" Kelly asks calmly, turning his head toward me and raising his eyebrow. He said it with such seriousness that it almost made me ashamed at myself for laughing at him.
"Well... yes. It's just there is no such thing as ghosts," I replied, taking a finger to each of my eyes and wiping the tears of laughter that were escaping.
"Exactly," he said, mysteriously. My eyebrows furrowed together so quickly, that it hurt. But, I have to admit, that was definitely one of the most confusing things that I have ever heard in my life.
Startled by his answer, I closed my mouth and Mrs. Bradford continued as if nothing happened, "Thank you, Mr. O'Connell that was certainly conspicuous." A couple of boys near the back of the room snickered at this comment and I couldn't help but to think along the same lines.
Kelly headed back to his seat, winking at me as he went passed and being the immature person that I am, I stuck my tongue out at him. Luckily, the teacher didn't notice and she told us to turn in our homework.
I had just handed her my paper when Kelly raised his hand. "Yes, Mr. O'Connell?"
"I was just wondering if I had to do the homework," Kelly said.
"Only if you know how to Geometry Proof an object," replied Mrs. Bradford, calmly looking over her glasses.
"That would be a no."
