It was about 6 am. I had been lying awake in bed for over two hours, maybe even three. I was thinking long and hard about what Kelly had said. Why did he want to know if there was something in his hands? What was so important on this person's hand?? Did it have something to do with backgrounds because I've been finding that just about everyone here has one with something gruesome in it. Looking over at Elena's bed, I noticed that she was still sound asleep. I decided to go to the Living Room so that I could finish a book I was in the middle of. It was called Time Between Us. It was about a girl from 1995; Anna, met a guy names Bennett from 2012 because he could time travel. That probably sounds really cheesy, but it was pretty good. Unfortunately, I left the Iron Trial in my locker at school so I wasn't able to finish that.
I walked down the long hallway; book in hand and turned the corner into the living room. I was surprised to see Alex already there, with a cup of coffee in one hand and a newspaper in the other. He looked up and gave me an evil grin, "Guess what? You made the front page!"
"What are you talking about?" I asked. I couldn't tell if he was kidding or for real. He passed me the paper and sure enough, there I was. I read the description. "Isolde Boden of Detroit, Michigan was earlier Monday evening reported missing by her mother, Helen Boden. She was last seen on Monday, leaving her school in an SUV with two other kids from her school Kelly O'Connell and Allison West. If you have seen her, or the other two students, please contact the police immediately." I looked up at Alex, "I think I need to call my mom." I said and got up from the couch.
"No! You can't call your mom, Izzy." Alex said, "They can track your phone! Do you know how bad that would be? Izzy, we're not like everyone else, we could get carted off to Science labs or, even worse, Raven would get to them first which will bring even more people to the scene. And what if our enemies found out where we are?? Do you know how bad that would be???"
I thought about that for a moment before saying, "I guess." I sat back down and began to slide my phone back into my pocket. But Alex got there first. He grabbed my phone out of my hand and threw it onto the ground, cracking my screen. "What the hell are you doing?!! I said I wouldn't call her!!!" He continued to destroy my phone by stomping on it as hard as he could until there was nothing left of it except little parts of metal. A large pit had grown in my stomach.
"I'm sorry, about that. I just had to be sure," Alex replied, although he showed absolutely no emotion, "Anyways, today we are going to finally head out to save the spirits." He scooted closer to me because he just realized that I was shaking, "Are you ok?" I was shaking too violently to hear him. That's when I blacked out.
I awoke to the smell of a crackling fire in the fireplace. Looking around, I noticed that I was in some sort of log cabin. I had been laying on a rug and noticed that there was blood around me. I heard footsteps in the hallway but couldn't find anywhere to hide; I was trapped. The man walked into the room with an evil grin, "Are you ready to continue, Helen Boden?" I froze as I realized that I was seeing through the eyes of my mother. And that's when I noticed it. The something on his hands.
