After all the selected detectives introduced themselves, an officer told us that in a group, there should be 3 detectives from 3 different cities. Names were called out and separated into cities. But when the sorting out process was done, I’ve just realized that I was the only one who came from Kyoto.
“Okay. I will call out three names, and I want those names to step forward and group up with your members, clear?” said the officer. As we all responded him with ‘yes’, he started to call out three names from different cities. I was hoping that I’m going to be in a group with Moshi. Some girls who were called sounded frustrated, since they were not going to be in a group with that mysterious Kei.
“Ayako Kiiroi from Kyoto?” I looked up at the officer and then I looked to my left side, and Moshi was still next to me. Then I carved a big smile across my face. “You’re going to be with Moshi Kuroku from Tokyo and-“
“I’m in a group with Kuro-kun? Yeah!!” I said. “But, did you just say ‘and’?” Then the officer nodded. I looked around, but there was no one, except that mysterious Kei Ryoumi. I gasped, but that mysterious Kei just smile to me. “Don’t tell me…”
“Yes I’m with you guys,” answered Kei, as he stood up and walked towards both of us. So we stood up, and walked forward together, and made a group of us. We were told to sit on the carpeted floor first, and broke the ice while waiting for the assignment file. “So nice to have you guys as my teammates.”
“Umm… Yeah. It’s nice to have you too, in my group.” Huh… Luckily I’m with Moshi, but unlucky me, I’m with Kei too. Even worse, as far as I know, a group will be given one big suite with three separated room. Oh my, this is not good. My thoughts were interrupted by some of the girls’ frustration.
“Oh how lucky she is!”
“It’s her, the one that Kei said that looked a lot like his first love! I wish it would be me.”
“I’m so jealous with her! She’s so lucky!”
“I’m afraid she will get Kei!”
Hey, hey…. Cut it out girls, I thought. How could they think that I was so lucky? I looked at Kei, who was talking with Moshi. It seems that I’ve met him before, but when and where? I was thinking about it when Kei suddenly turned to me. There was a silence, but then I braved myself out and asked him.
“Have we ever met before? Because it seems like I’ve seen you before,” I asked him, as Moshi started to look at me too.
“I don’t think so. But for me, it seems like I’ve seen you many times before last year. You know what I mean right?”
“Ah… it must be about your first love. Last year after what you did, that girl must have left you right?”
“No, but we were got separated by my dad, and I missed her so much. That’s why I kept looking at you because I thought you were her. But when I saw you in nearer distance, it seems like my pain was slowly treated.”
His eyes. He showed me his sad eyes. A look that I’ve seen before. I just nodded, pretending that I didn’t think about his problem. An officer then entered the hall with a big box. He put it on the table, and started to call out names again, but this time according to group members. Each of the names was given a yellow file. As all of us had the file, the officer started to explain.
“Okay. Here how it works. Each group is given different cases, and you have to solve it within a week. You can go to anywhere you want around England to gather the clues and information for your case. There is no limit in places, as long as you can complete it within that week. Any group which gets the answer accurately and early will be given prizes. Understand?” As we all said ‘yes’, we were given 5 minutes to discuss among us about the case given, then we could go home.
