“Kaito-kun!” A voice called me as I put on my shoes. I turned around to find out Reiko was running towards me before her arms flew around my waist.

“Hey! What are you doing?” I sighed, trying to pull her arms away from my waist. Instead of releasing me, she tightens her embrace, making me hard to breathe. “Okay, okay. Now let me go.” I clutched her arms and pulled it off of me. She pursed her lips, before she put her arm around mine as we left the school.

“Kaito-kun, will you go to the festival with me tonight?” Reiko suddenly asked me. I furrowed my brows at her, while she was trying to give me one of her cute looks. “Please, please, please, please-”

“Okay okay, we’ll go there together,” I finally gave in. She squealed in happiness at my agreement and believed it or not, her friends were going to hang out with her before the night’s festival. On our way back home, she kept talking about what they were going to do at the festival tonight with her friends. She obviously ignored me, then why would she even want me to accompany her when her friends are going to be with her? “Oh okay… we’re home! Goodbye Reiko, see you tonight,” I instantly uttered as my house was in sight and increasing my paces, trying to leave the girls since I was the only boy there.

Perceptibly ignoring her calls for my name, I slammed my house door behind me, feeling saved from the danger outside for now though. I shook my head and took off my shoes before putting it on the shoe cabinet. I ran upstairs for no reason before I accidentally bumped my mom’s shoulder.

“Whoa! What’s with the rush?” my mum asked before she grabbed my arm as I was trying to go upstairs.

“’Monster’ coming mum!!! Got to hide from it!” I fake-shouted to my mum, before she laughed and let me go. At least she knew who the ‘monster’ that I talked about was. I went into my room, straight to my window to look at the other side. Great, she’s there, I thought as I saw a shadow just through the small opening of her window. I scrambled for my pole under my bed and as I pulled it out, without anymore thoughts I pushed it out of the window, expecting to hear a tap.

“Whoa!!!” I heard a shriek, from the other side. “Kaito-kun!” Irene said, standing by the side of her window frame, looking surprised. Oh no, did I hurt her? Will she hate me for it? Will she ever want to be my friend again? My thoughts kept running through my head when awkward silence came to fill the large gap between our windows, but then her laughter killed the silence down. “Hahaha! Look at your face; I’m sure you’re feeling scared right now!” She clutched her stomach with her arms, still laughing at me.

“Irene!” I pouted, crossing my arms, letting the end of my pole rested on her window frame. I didn’t know that she was opening her window at the same time as I was about to tap it.

“Hahaha… I know that you’re afraid if I’m going to be mad at you, and… and… I know that you’re afraid if I don’t want to be your friend anymore-”

“Wait… How did you know that?” Curiosity in me kept overwhelming. She spreaded her arms on her window frame, looking into me.

“It’s all written on your face, boy!” she said, finally settling her laughs down. “So… I was wondering about tonight… The reason why did I open my window; I know that you’re being curious of it too.” Wow… she really could read minds.

“Yeah… Um… yeah… I was… about to ask it too,” I muttered, scratching the back of my neck with my hand. She nodded, and this time she pulled out a computer chair and sat on it in front of her window. I pulled my pole back into my room and laid it down on my floor, before I sat on my window sill.

“So… you’re going? With Reiko-san?” she asked me, resting her chin against her window frame. I shrugged, and nodded weakly. “Oh… but you don’t look happy with it?”
