"Ok folks, time to wake up." Charles didn't want to be in this overgrown house of horrors longer than he had to. "Part two: the investigators have found out that our victim is staying in third room in the West hall. Your job is to find a way to get our young damsel out of there without detection."
As they made there way over to the hall. The obstacles were obvious. The floor squeaked, though the place was big, there were not many places to hide, and there was one servant constantly running into the main room to this hall and that one.
The influence of the twins couldn't be more obvious. Molly had thrown streamers and glitter every where, Mary had replaced the sheets and picture frames with complete black, and Mara made sure the other two left the the dresser and mirror alone.
"Everybody hide!" Donald shouted. The door started to open suddenly and no one had any time to think as the human rushed in and closed the door with such force, it left a ringing in everyone's ear.
While the scared couple inched back, Charles took no time in yelling out; "Alicia!"
"Charles! I've never been happier to see you. As much as I loved meeting these girls, I can't stay. The girls are giving me a headache, the house is super creepy at night and i don't think Mr. Steige wants me around."
"Now calm down, calm down. The uh, detectives here have told me they have figured out a plan to get you out of here. Come here and let me whisper a comfort in your ear." Charles told the situation to Alicia.
"Oh, that is comforting. Thank you detectives. Have you figured anything out?"
"If he was hired for a dollar, she was hired for a nickel. Not the best at acting."
Donald just wanted this to be over, "We think we have an idea, but it will take time. We checked the bathrooms, and it appears only one of them has vanity."
Alicia couldn't see what they were getting at; "True, but my room also has a mirror."
"Let me finish child. Now, inside is where we found other blankets and sheets. Put it together, and it's as simple as 1, 2, 3."
Alicia wasnt sure about this plan, but she was willing to try it. As she walked down the hall, it seemed the heartbeat of even just Charles could cause an earthquake.
"Where are you going?" A small voice appeared behind her, and she was certain she was going to face the consequences.
"Well, I thought I would get a couple more sheets. It's been cold at night" Alicia was scared Mary had heard the tremble in Alicia's voice.
"Then we should let surv. Sir get you a quilt. It'd be much warmer."
"No, that'd be too heavy. I just need sheets."
"That's not why you need them, is it?"
Alicia sighed. She had to play this smooth or Mary would know the truth. "No, no it's not. I'm sorry. I just didn't know if what you'd think, but I really prefer sleep in a blanket fort, and I was just nervous."
Mary laughed a child's laugh and it was the first time Alicia had seen her truly act her age and see light in her eyes. "I use to love blanket forts. Age doesn't matter. We'll build one together. C'mon."
Alicia knew she should figure out how to get out of that place, but she couldn't help it. She saw Mary smile, and for once she didn't think of home, or getting out of there, or even the other girls. It was those two having fun and playing around with no judgement. Alicia had almost thought that side of Mary was dead, but for a small few hours, everything was bliss, and there was nothing else in the world. It made Alicia think: How? With such blissful happiness, how could there be any horrors in the same world? What stopped Mary dead in her tracks from having fun before?
That night Alicia was surprised to see all three little girls standing at her door, eager to sleep in her room. As they lay down to sleep, Alicia heard Donald whisper in her ear "When they fall asleep, make a run for it."
Alicia almost felt bad for the girls for leaving them, and she felt bad for having to drag Two sugar gliders into it too, even if they were into it.
She had fun talking with Diane occasionally and pretending to be a damsel in distress having to be rescued by cute animals and
Talking with the couple about the advantages and disadvantages of each plan they came up with, and hearing Charles give them facts based on their world.
As Alicia made her way down the halls and out the door, she couldn't help but look back and feel sorry for leaving the poor souls. She had left them behind while their backs were turned and they'd wake up with no one by their sides.
As she made it out the door and out of the gates, everyone cheered, including Donald. "We've done it! We made it out! Our plan worked!"
Everyone said their goodbyes, and went their separate ways. Unfortunately, as Charles and Alicia made their way down the road, they heard the sounds of horse hooves. "ALICIA! WHERE ARE YOU GOING?" Mara called out in a dainty yet loud voice, obviously hurt. As the coach stopped by them Alicia felt when heart sink into the ground as she knew guilt would eat her alive while she spoke to the girls.
"Where were you going? You weren't gonna leave us, were you? I like you as a friend. You didn't give up on us, and you seemed to actually have fun." Molly seemed sad, though not near tears. She wasn't very emotional; that was Mara.
"I just... Guys, I had to leave I need to go home, and I'm missing my mother. I didn't want to hurt you so I left in the middle of the night. I'm sorry..." Mars gasped, and the other two couldn't help but cry.
"You probably miss your mommy..."
"Me too..."
After a long silence, Mara jumped up, trying to lighten things up. "Well, then we'll help you! Hop in! Where were you headed anyway?"
Alicia hesitated at first, but decided listening to the girls was the best option. She wasn't going to break their poor little hearts again. "We were on our way to Calleash when you stopped us."
"Calleash?! I've always wanted to go to Calleash! And you live there? Wow!" Molly popped up with excitement as the carriage drove forth and down the winding roads.
The girls droned on about how exciting it must be to live in Calleash before Mary suggested a game of I spy, then one by one they all fell asleep on each other, until even Charles was asleep, and Alicia fell happily asleep waiting to arrive at Calleash.
