Previously in 'Without You':
Bam. She knew what she was going to write about.
She quickly jumped up, and grabbed the laptop off the edge of the couch.
She began clicking away, at lighting speed.
"God only knows how much I need you. I could explode-" Jenna's phone began ringing. Jenna's phone only sang that song when Malcolm called.
She assigned it for Tony originally but he preformed and recorded a song he wrote specifically for her and set it as his ringer. This couldn't be. She felt her heart beat so quickly, she could hear it in her ears.
She looked down at the caller I.D.
-------------------------------------------
Jenna inched towards the phone.
"Malcolm David Kelley" the phone read.
She wasn't sure what to think. She was excited, but confused. Malcolm was in a coma. How could he have been answering the phone? But maybe- no, but Tony didn't call first. She was done have a mental war, and picked up the phone.
"H-hello..." Jenna stammered, scared for the voice that would answer on the other end of the phone call.
To her surprise, and immediate grieving, it was Tony, "Jenna, baby." He whined.
She feared what he'd say next more than she had ever feared anything more than absolutely anything in the entire world. She didn't want anything bad to happen. And Tony had promised he'd call if anything changed with Malcolm
Obviously that promise hadn't exactly been kept as well as Jenna would have hoped for it to.
She was too hurt to be losing her best friend. She couldn't cope without him, and more than anything, she knew Tony couldn't cope without Malcolm either.
"Jenna-" Tony started in again, but Tony wouldn't finish his sentence. He was cut off by the sound of stern warnings from Eman.
Jenna was too scared to truly recognize the voice, or put together the warnings. She was fearful of Tony's words. She was scared for what news she'd unload on her life.
"What is it Tony?" She almost sobbed, she sniffled back the tears, and tried to mask the sound of her almost crying. She wanted to be strong, not for herself, for Tony. She wanted him to know she'd be his support system. It's all she wanted.
"Malcolm. He's..." Tony cut himself off again. This time, because he felt he should, not because he was being lectured once more for a reason that didn't even occur to her to think why Emanuel would lecture Tony. He was a full grown man, for crying out loud.
"HE'S WHAT?!" Jenna shouted, Tony was testing her patience, and not giving her the valuable information.
Tony sighed, and pressing the phone to his ear, he let out a tear, "just get here as soon as you can. I think you need to see for yourself. It'd be better that way." He let out in a hushed tone, trying to reveal no emotion.
Jenna lost all hope.
She ended the call without an "I love you" or "on my way." She just hung up.
Quickly, she launched herself into the bedroom, scurrying around, struggling to find her car keys.
She threw a jacket on over her pajamas, and grabbed her uggs. She was the typical white girl, but she'd kick ass when she needed to.
She was fierce but in this moment, she was scared.
She hobbled out the front door where the mid-December breeze hit her like a truck. She was freezing to death, but inside she was already dead. She knew Malcolm was gone, but Tony wouldn't tell her. She just knew it.
She rushed along to her car anyways, threw the keys in the ignition, and drove out of the parking structure as fast as she possibly could. With tears running down her cheeks, she zoomed through the town like she was on set of a fast and furious movie.
What was bound to happen to Jenna the moment she left the comfort and safety of their little apartment, was beyond what Tony would have expected.
He would have never seen it coming.
