Previously in Without You;
She rushed along to her car anyways, threw the keys in the ignition, and drove out of the parking structure as fast as she possibly could. With tears running down her cheeks, she zoomed through the town like she was on set of a fast and furious movie.
What was bound to happen to Jenna the moment she left the comfort and safety of their little apartment, was beyond what Tony would have expected.
He would have never seen it coming.
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Jenna zipped past every building, pedestrian, and car with determination and tears filling her eyes.
She'd never felt this kind of emotion overtake her body. She was angry, furious, but hurt. She was lost in her own thoughts. Why the fuck had Tony not told her of Malcolm's sudden change in condition over the phone? Did he really think she was that incapable of handling it? Did he think that low of her and her womanly emotions? She grew angrier and angrier with every single thought that fluttered into her mind.
It was like a waterfall into an abyss. They all entered, but no, they never left.
She wasn't the type to let things affect her everyday life, or change her personal Ora, but this shit was pissing her off.
Obviously Malcolm is dead, yeah, he's gone. He's going to be laying on the bed lifeless, no pulse. He's going to be dead. He won't be breathing, not around to poke jokes at Jenna and Tony, not around to rap her a happy birthday song, not around to hug her tight after not seeing her for days, not around to assure her tomorrow holds much brighter opportunities than today's struggle.
She wasn't stupid. By Tony's childish tone, she just knew that Malcolm was gone. The one she loved as an older brother was gone.
Suddenly, she pulled over. She completely stopped, in the middle of her journey to the hospital.
She threw her hands to her face and wiped away tears forming between loud, pitiful sobs.
Jenna ran her hand across the dash, into the glove box where she had found a hand written note Malcolm gave her on her birthday, shortly after her and Tony had been moved in together.
She cried and she unfolded the note in her hands. She was shaking. Her heart was beating a million times faster; she'd never opened the note because as the sloppy writing directed her not to open it until she needed a pick-me-up that even Tony couldn't provide.
The letter shook in her hands, tears splatting onto the paper and she read along:
"'Cutie, little Jenna. I'm sorry you're hurt, but if there's anything I can do to help, I'll be there in the blink of an eye. You're family. You're my little sister. Not by blood, but that's okay, because family is family no matter how they came to be.
So if ya waited to open this until Tony couldn't help either, it must be serious so let me tell you, things get better. Yeah, I know that probably won't help but trust me. Life gets easier. The pain doesn't completely go away but it gets easier to deal with. If it ever gets to hard to deal with, baby you always got my open arms in a hug. Keep it classy.
Love Malcolm xoxo"
"Malcolm. You can't be dead." She looked up and sobbed to the skies, as a single rain drop fell from the sky and hit her windshield.
"Baby no." She whimpered, turning the key back over, continuing forward.
