Placing my hand through my bow, I let the heavy metal rest on my shoulders. My stomach burned at my actions, causing me to grit my teeth. The wound wasn't healing, and without any healing water nothing would help. I'd slowly get worse. Bending down I was careful as to not open the wound further. Healer Marry had come in the morning to check the wound, and just by the frown on her lips I could tell it wasn't looking good.
I remember her talking in hushed voices with William and my father about being out of healing water. What this healing water was still had me confused. No one had mentioned where it came from, or what it was made out of. For all I knew, it could've been some ploy from the healer to gain our trust before my death.
Shaking my head, I grabbed my small haversack. After our little ordeal with Markus, William was adamant we leave right away. The surviving villagers were sent to another compound that was heavily guarded, the area even to me unknown. Once I had everything I needed, I decided to head over to the dragons. Being around them almost seemed to calm my heart. I still had no idea where Aurora was, but no matter what I wasn't going to give up on her. I would find her even if it was the last thing I did.
Laying on the muddy ground, Zor gazed out at the moving soldiers. As if sensing me near, his head snapped in my direction. Smiling up at him, I lowered my head in respect to him. His scales looked well despite the harsh conditions we had been in.
Dropping his head down to me, Zor gently placed his nose at my wound.
Your wound still courses with venom.
Gasping in shock, I frowned down at him. "So I can hear you."
Bobbing his head, his voice spoke in my mind once more. You are our voice, our leader.
"I don't understand." All this seemed so unreal. All the scrolls had stated that no one was able to hear a dragon unless it was of your own. I was neither his Rider nor leader. Nothing made sense.
Snorting through his nose as if he was laughing, his rough voice entered my mind. Since the day you were found, you have been able to hear other Dragons. You've been blessed by the Great Book. She gave you life.
Moving his gaze to behind me, I watched his eyes squint slightly as if he was displeased. You must only trust people who have done well to you. Trust no one else with this knowledge.
Sensing someone behind me, I turned my head to see my father standing there with a frown. "Are you okay, Abagail?"
"I'm fine." Turning back to Zor, i watched as he laid his head back down onto the ground, wing spread as if waiting for me to step on. Taking his offer, I walked up onto his wing. Placing my bag over the saddle situated on his back, I turned slightly waiting for my father to say something.
With a small sigh, he moved towards me, yet he was still cautious of getting close to Zor. To me it seemed he was afraid of the Dragon, causing a small smile to form on my lips as I turned away.
Clearing his throat, he spoke. "When we land, I will tell you everything you need to know."
Tightening the strap of my bag on the saddle, I spoke. "Does that mean you will tell me why you left?" silence followed my question. Snorting in anger, I swung my leg over the saddle. "I guess not."
