Detective Alexander Gideon Lightwood was leaning to the back of his chair when he heard a knock on his office's door. He was looking at a file which contained details of the some out-of-the-ordinary crimes that happened in the past few weeks.
"Come in" he said strictly.
The door was opened revealing his long-time partner; Detective Jonathan Christopher Herondale.
"So how did the investigation go?" asked Alec?
"It's a dead end" sighed Jace tiredly.
"What? Again? This like the 4th case we handle which ends up with a dead end!" exclaimed Alec irritably.
"We need a warlock's help" stated Jace simply.
"What? No! Quit saying that Jace. We are more than capable for solving those crimes alone. We just need to think of a new tactic to approach those cases" explained Alec.
"Come on, Jace is right Alec. We could use all the help we need" came in the reply of Alec's younger sister Isabelle Sophia Lightwood.
"Not you too Izzy" said Alec dramatically.
"Excuse me Alec, warlocks are capable of solving mystical and unknown crimes. Having one helping us is going to be helpful to catch those guys and have them trialled and sent to jail by the Clave. It's not that we don't trust your capabilities. It's for the sake of the greater good and saving innocent lives" added Clarissa Adele Fairchild thoughtfully.
"Ah, even you Clary?" questioned Alec feeling betrayed.
"Oh come on Alec. Let's find the best of the Warlocks in New York," said Simon Lovelace amusingly.
"And who might that be?" inquired Alec almost in interest.
"The High Warlock of Brooklyn..." said Jace.
"Magnus Bane" continued Clary.
"The owner of Pandemonium night club and Moon Magic boutique" completed Izzy who was showing them some clips about Magnus' life.
Alec spaced out for few moments staring at the so many Magnus Bane pictures feeling something tugging on his heart strings. Something about Magnus is inviting him in. Like a moth attracted to fire, he felt attracted to; intrigued by the mysterious man (warlock) in front of him.
Then, he looked at Simon.
"Simon, can you please arrange a meeting with Mr Bane? As soon as possible, please" said Alec quietly.
"Consider it done" said the newly ascended Shadowhunter.
The detective rested himself onto the back of his chair trying to feel comfortable while his teammates/family went back to their respective desks to work on some paperwork before filing them to their boss, Deputy Luke Garroway.
*********************************************************************
It was Alexander Lightwood's dream of becoming a detective since he was a little boy. He was trained to be a skilled Shadowhunter along with his younger sister, his little brother; Max and his best friends Jace, Clary and Simon. But he thought working as a Shadowhunter Detective could be more effective. And having an ex-Shadowhunter; a werewolf boss was more helpful because it let him get to know the Downworld more.
And now he is going to work alongside of a warlock, for the first time. He heard about them; the children of demons and humans. He did his search on Magnus Bane. It turned out that his father –Asmodeus– was an angel before he became a fallen; a demon and the prince of Edom. Despite all of that, Magnus grew up in Spain and started helping the mundane for a charge. He wondered what the High Warlock of Brooklyn will ask for as his charge for his assistance.
"We have an appointment with Magnus at his club Pandemonium" stated Simon.
"Great. When?" asked Alec masking his surge of excitement.
"Tonight at 9:30 PM" replied Simon.
Alec looked at his watch and saw it was 5:30 in the evening which gives him and the rest four hours to shower and get ready.
"All right. Have the others finished their reports Simon?" asked Alec.
"Yes, and they handed them over to Boss Garroway," answered Simon.
"You know I hate when you call me that Simon, I practically raised you since you and Clary were in diapers. We agreed you either call me Uncle Luke or just Luke. And at work, call me just Mr Garroway, son" explained Luke Garroway.
"Yes, Mr Garroway" answered Simon nodding his head leaving the two guys alone.
"So how is the new case Alec?" wondered Luke.
"As you have read on our latest reports sir. Dead end as the previous ones. That's why we are meeting up with a warlock tonight to help us end those crimes for good," answered Alec politely.
"And that would be..." said Luke.
"The High Warlock of Brooklyn, Magnus Bane" explained Alec.
"Oh Magnus Bane. Give him my regards you meet him Alec" requested Luke.
"Of course. But may I ask? How do you know each other?" asked Alec softly.
"Well, he was the one who helped saving my life along with Jocelyn, Clary's mom, when I turned into werewolf. He kept me sane and gave me potions to help me controlling myself for my first full moon. I owe him and Jocelyn a lot. If it wasn't for the two of them, I would be dead by now, after the betrayal of my parabatai" explained Luke sadly.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have asked" said Alec remorsefully.
"No son. No need to be sorry. It's the way life was to me, but if not for what had happened. I wouldn't have met Magnus, who is a really good guy, and I wouldn't have got the guts to tell Jocelyn that I love her. He helped me in that too. And now we are engaged-to-be married" stated Luke with a smile.
"So, he is a great guy and helped a lot. He sounds like quite the man for the job, huh?" said Alec dreamily.
"Yes. And good luck tonight. I hope we will get a closure soon. I'll better leave and go home to have dinner with my fiancée." said Luke happily.
Alec wondered. Would he get his fiancé? And a home with him in the future? While thinking, an image of a certain tanned muscular warlock came into his mind which made him smile softly.
