Chapter 16

I wake up and I am the last one up like always. I put on my mocking jay outfit. I put my 2 favorite pictures in the left side sleeve. I pick up my bow and I swing the quiver over my left shoulder. I step out of the train and I’m in the center of the capitol. I know that today is the day that Snow, Coin, and Paylor will try to kill my family. Snow’s mansion is about 10 miles from where we’re at.

I kind of remember where it’s at but all my concussions have made my short term memory horrible. The capitol is beautiful but the people look so weird. Their tastes in fashion are absolutely disgusting. All of us start walking and all of the capitol citizens are looking at us weird. I mean I kind of see where there coming from though. It’s not often that you see 16 heavily dressed and armed people walking in a straight line down the street.

All of us separate into 4 teams. The first team is Grayson, Jordan, Erica, and Rae. The second team is Phoenix, Lauren, Austin, and Bobby. The 3rd team is Effie, Lexi, Johanna, and Haymitch. The final team is Taylor, Emily, Janey, and me. My group takes the long way to Snow’s mansion because we just wanted to. The team leaders are Grayson, Bobby, Johanna, and me. The four of us all have walkie talkies to communicate with each other.

Every team member has their own weapons. I have a bow and arrow, knifes, and some body armor. Janey has an ax, a first aid kit, knifes, and body armor. Taylor has knifes, a sword, and body armor. Emily has an ax, knifes, and body armor. Effie has an ax and body armor. Haymitch has an ax, a hammer, and body armor. Lexi has an ax and body armor. Johanna has an ax, knifes, and body armor. Phoenix has an ax and body armor. Lauren has knifes and body armor. Austin has knifes, an ax, and a body armor. Bobby has a bow and arrow and body armor. Grayson has knifes and body armor. Jordan has a sword, knifes, and body armor. Erica has knifes and body armor. Rae has an ax, knifes, and body armor. 

\We are all heavily armed and ready to take down the capitol again. But there is a problem that were all going to run into. Snow’s stupid peacekeepers. When you approach the mansion, there is a gate and there are 6 peacekeepers guarding the gate. My walkie talkie starts buzzing and I pick it up.

“Soldier Mellark report”, Grayson says. “Here soldier Ryback.”  “ hey, we can’t get to the front without unlocking the gate so we need teams 2 and 3 to come from the side and take them out over” “ I’ll tell them that right away, team 4 out” I say,” Soldiers Mason and Stillwater report.” “ here soldier Mellark, they say. “ hey I need you guys to come from the side to take out the 6 peacekeepers guarding the gate so team #1 can get in.” “affirmative soldier Mellark, team’s 2 and 3 out.”  

My team finally approaches the back of the mansion and I stop in my tracks. Snow had to know that we were coming. There are peacekeepers everywhere. My team quietly takes the ones behind the mansion out and we hide their bodies. I see Grayson and his team hiding behind the bushes. I give him a nod and he nods back.

I see Johanna’s team coming in from the left and Bobby’s team coming in from the right. I get down in the prone position and say,” teams 2 and 3 you are clear for attack.” Johanna and her team quickly take out 4 peacekeepers and hide their bodies. Bobby’s team takes a little bit longer but they accomplish their mission.

My talkie starts buzzing and I pick it up. “teams 2, 3, and 4 are we ready to proceed into the mansion grounds?” “affirmative soldier Ryback. All teams proceed. I repeat all teams proceed. Grayson unlocks the gate and we proceed and we see the door going into the back of the mansion. There are 2 peacekeepers guarding the door. I shoot them both right in the neck with my arrows. I look at Grayson’s team who are taking out the group of peacekeepers guarding the front door to the mansion. Bobby and Johanna’s team take out the rest of the peacekeepers on the outside. They both nod at me and I nod at Grayson.

We attach our C4 to the door and I pick up my walkie talkie and say,” affirmative to enter?” “affirmative soldier Mellark.” We blow off the doors and all the peacekeepers that were in the mansion are now dead. I hear snow shout,” Kill the Mellarks now!” I launch myself through the doors leading down to the dungeon and I catch myself and I run down the stairs. I see Coin with 2 pistols in her hand. They are against Peeta’s and rue’s head. “Katniss, you made it.”

Snow and Paylor are just standing there and Snow looks at me and says.” Too late.” He immediately falls dead. There is a knife in the back of his skull. Paylor says,” Kill them!” She then falls dead. There is a sword in her back. I look behind and there is Grayson and Jordan weapons armed at coin. Everybody comes in and has their weapons armed at coin. She says,” you shoot then I shoot." She has a point. Then I think of an idea.

She is about to shoot but then I jump in front of the bullet and it hits me in the arm. I scream in pain but I take my arrow and load it into my bow. “THIS IS FOR PRIMROSE EVERDEEN!!” I fire it and it hits Coin right square in the temple killing her instantly. Peeta is heavily bruised and he has a knife wound in his left leg. Rue is fine but she is bruised. Taylor screams and I turn around and see Gale with a gun to Taylor’s head.

“Gale, what in the hell are you doing.” I was going to kill you anyway.” I fire an arrow but it deflects off his armor. I send Taylor a hand signal that Gale doesn’t know about. Taylor takes her knife and stabs it right into Gale’s neck, killing him. He falls to the ground and Taylor breathes heavily. “Okay, we have got to get out of here and back to the train.”  I help Peeta walk to the train and I carry Rue on my shoulders.

We get to the train and I help Peeta get in the box car. Rue jumps off but I can tell she is hurt. I take off my mocking jay suit and I don’t even bother to put my jeans and my shirt back on. I pull the covers over me and Rae taps me on my shoulder. “hey put this on.” She has a arm brace for my injured arm. I am about to fall asleep and that is when my covers are pulled off and somebody gets into bed with me. I turn and it is Peeta. This is nice because we haven’t slept together in 2 weeks.

“Hey you barely have any clothes on sweetie.” he says. “yeah I know I’m really tired plus it gets really hot at night.” I say. He cuddles next to me and kisses me. I blush and he smiles. I can tell he likes when I blush. “Hey Katniss can I ask you something?” I look at him and say,” yeah sure.” “Hey did you miss me?” “of course I missed you; you are the love of my life Peeta.” That really makes him happy and we both fall asleep holding each other in each other’s arms
