Chapter 23

I am shocked that Snow’s daughter would have the nerve to show up in district 12. I uncuff her hands and she moves her wrists. She then says,” First off I am Sierras second in command and she has invited your team to attend the state of Panem address.” She gets up and leaves and Peeta has a very tight grip on my shoulder. He lets go and I start shaking. He puts his hand on my head and says,” You feel hot. You need to lie down.”

I limp up the stairs and I lie down on the bed. I feel like crap and I have a major stomachache. Peeta calls the district doctor and he arrives 5 minutes later. He takes my temperature and it is 103.4 degrees. The doctor then tells me,” Katniss you have the flu. I am telling you that you need to stay in bed for a couple of days.

I try to argue but Peeta shoots me a glance. I decide it’s not worth arguing over. The doctor leaves and Peeta gives me some medicine. I am just laying there with a blanket over me. Peeta pats my head and rubs my stomach.

“ I’m going out with Finn and Rue. I’ll be back later sweetie.” I hear him shut the door and I get up. I walk downstairs and grab some water. I am absolutely burning up. I take my temperature and it has dropped to 101.8 degrees. I go back upstairs and lay down. The phone then starts ringing.

I pick it up and say,” hello?” “ Hi Katniss its Taylor, how are you?” “ not very well actually. Im very sick”, I say. “ Oh, well I hope you feel better”, she says. She then hangs up the phone. I hear Peeta come home. He opens our door and he is excited to see me. “ How are you feeling sweetie”, he asks. “ A little bit better”, I tell him.

He takes my temperature again and it has gone down again. It is now 98.8 degrees. Peeta calls the doctor. The doctor says that I can move around now but still take the medicine for a couple of days. I put on a t-shirt and jeans. I walk downstairs where Rue and Fin are watching TV. I sit down next to them and I see a huge smile come across their faces.

The doorbell then rings and I get up. I open the door and it is a young girl. She looks like she’s 17 and has green eyes. She then tackles me to the ground and I flip her over but she slaps me across the face.

She takes a knife and throws it. It misses my skull by an inch. She then charges at me and spears me right through the window. Glass is everywhere and my arm is bleeding. Her head has been cut open as well. She then pounces on top of me and pins my arms behind my back.

“ I finally found you Katniss”, the girl says. She takes one of her knifes and stabs me right in the stomach. “ OW!” She then puts one up to my throat and before she can start she is lifted off her feet. I see Peeta’s large frame carry her into the house. I hear kicking and screaming and then silence.

He comes back outside to check on me. He takes my shirt off and assess the damage to my abdomen. He wraps my ribs up and helps me walk back to the house. I see the girl tied up to a chair. Her knifes are out of her reach. Peeta unties her and she starts staring me down. I ask, Who are you and why are you here?”

“ My name is Hazel Kemmings and I am Clove’s sister.” I stare at her for a second and then it hits me. She is identical to Clove. The only difference is that she has brown hair instead of black. “I am currently living 3 houses down from you guys. Im sorry for what I did”, she says.

“ Its okay but were still keeping an eye on you though”,  I say as she walks toward the door. She then leaves and walks back to her house. Peeta looks at me and says,” Are you alright?” “Yeah I’m fine but it just hurts.” Peeta goes into the kitchen and grabs some cream medicine out of the medicine cabinet. He then says,” Lay down.”

I lay down on my and he lifts my shirt up. He removes the bandages from by abdomen. He rubs some of the cream on my injured stomach. I wince at the pain. Peeta sees this and extends his left hand. I take it and I’m holding it as tight as I possibly can.

After he’s done I pull my shirt down and I sit up. Peeta comes back over to me and sits down beside me. He puts his hand on my leg and I enjoy this a lot. We go back into our room and lay down on the bed. I kiss him on the lips and we both fall asleep holding each others hand.
