Chapter 19

I wake up and I look at the time and it is 2:00 in the afternoon. Peeta walks in and helps me stand up. I balance myself on his shoulders. “Are you okay?” he asks. “No not really. I swear my knee hurts more today than it did yesterday.”

He goes and gets my crutches and I know I have to use them. I start walking and Peeta is in front of me. I think to myself payback time. I come up behind him and tickle him. He is squirming and he turns around. He lifts me off my feet and I’m now on his shoulders.

“Well crap, that backfired.” I say. He puts me down and holds my arms. He tosses me over his right shoulder and carries me around showing that he is the stronger of the two of us. He lays me back down on the bed and I relax. Peeta looks at me and says,” You liked that didn’t you?” I don’t want to admit it but he is right. “Yeah I did.” I say with a smile on my face. He lies down beside me and kisses me.

“Come on Katniss, we have to go see Annie.” He helps me and I start walking on my crutches. We reach Annie’s house and Phoenix rings the doorbell. Annie opens the door and sees that I’m on crutches. “Oh Katniss come in and sit down.” she says. I take a seat on her couch. “So why are you on crutches?” she asks. “I had surgery on my knee because I had torn my ACL and I had major damage to my MCL and PCL.” “Well, I hope it gets better”, she says.

Peeta and I go back to the train. The train starts moving toward district 5. I limp back to the bed and lie down. I think about how my birthday is in 2 weeks. Peeta comes in and lies down beside me. He is messing with my hair until the whole crew walks in on us. I sit up on the bed and

Grayson looks at me and says,” Katniss, since some of us won’t see you in 2 weeks; here is your birthday gift.” I open it and it is a gold bow with gold and silver arrows that say KEM & PRE on them. There is a t-shirt that says you are our leader on the front and a picture of a mocking jay on the back. I start crying and say,” Where did you guys come up with the money?” Jordan says,” All 18 of us combined our money to get this for you. “ “ I love it. Thank you”, I say. Everybody leaves except Peeta. Peeta looks at me and says,” You like their gift?” “ Yeah but you weren’t a part of that”, I ask confused.

He smiles and rubs my stomach and says,” Nope, you will get your gift in two weeks my lady.” I stand up and I balance myself on Peeta. He grabs me and lies me down on the bed. “ You need to lay down Katniss. You have been up all day. You need to relax”, he says. “ Yeah I know I am just stubborn I guess”, I tell him. Rue then walks in and is about to jump on me but Peeta catches her. “ Rue, you can’t jump on your mom right now, okay”, Peeta tells her. Rue then without notice jumps down and climbs onto my stomach. Peeta glares at me but I give him an okay nod. I am tossing Rue into the air and she loves it.

She then stops and leaves. Peeta gets into the bed with me and cuddles up right next to me. “ Hey Peeta, your getting on me for standing up when I’m hurt but you got stabbed too”, I ask glaring at him. He just laughs it off and I take some bandage and wrap up his stab wound. We then start kissing and we both pull away. He then shows me his back which is a dark red with marks all over it. I then go to sleep with Peeta’s arm draped over me.
