Letter and Italy

Carlisle's POV

I was in my study in our Alaskan home when there was a knock at the door. No one else was home Alice and Rose went shopping taking their husbands (Jasper & Emmett) with them. Esme went to go visit the Denali coven. Edward, Bella and Renesmee were house hunting with Jacob. So I went to the front door and answered it. "How may I help you?" I ask seeing two members of Aro's guard.

"We have a letter from Aro and hope to see you in a few days" Heidi states handing me the letter. "He requests your presence, the letter will explain everything" she assures me.

"Though I am sure your seer (Alice) has already told you what Aro is doing" Demetri states and I nod my head. "Aro wishes for you to be her doctor, he trusts you" he says. "Now we must return, we expect you to arrive in three days" he tells me.

"Of course, but I must speak with the others before leaving" I remind them.

"Just don't waste to much time, our master awaits you" Heidi states and they disappear. I look at the letter in my hand and return to my study. Where I take a seat and open it before reading it:

Old Friend,

I am sure Alice has told of my Sulpicia wanting a child of her own and that I agreed to give her one. The human mother is now pregnant and will need a doctor. I needed one that knew of our kind or is one of us. But has great self control and my trust. So I ask for you to be the doctor to my future child and it's human mother. I expect you in Volterra in three days time. If you need anything we'll get it for you. Esme is welcome to come as well, hope to see you soon old friend.

Master Aro

I put it down as I hear Esme return home and she appears at the door. "What is it Carlisle?" she asks me and I hand her the letter. "When are you leaving?" she asks.

"Tomorrow night at the latest, if I don't go Aro will come here" I tell her. "I wish for you to stay here, the family can't be without both the leaders. I know they are all grow-ups and have their own lives. But I still see them as our children" I explain.

"I feel the same way, just please stay in contact" she tells me and we kiss gently. When the others finally return we tell them of the letter. Jasper and Emmett weren't thrilled about me going alone. But Alice and Edward assured them nothing would go wrong & that I'd return safely. Rosalie was quite in deep thought and Jacob stayed out of it by taking Nessie to her room. Bella wasn't happy about Aro letting the human mother die, but was happy he'd be preoccupied with a child in the coming years. So it was agreed I'd leave tomorrow night and Alice decided to throw a party inviting the Denali's over.

(Next day: Afternoon)

The Denali's arrived with Garrett who is now dating Kate and learning to be a vegetarian. There was music, food for Nessie & Jacob and old stories told. When it was time for me to leave I took my bag and hugged everyone (except Jacob) goodbye. Before giving Esme one last kiss before running towards Italy. It'd take a little over thirty-five hours to reach Italy on foot with breaks. But I don't mind and will fly home, which would only take about eleven hours. Besides this gives me more time to prepare for what I'll see in Volterra.

(Volterra Italy)

I reached Italy at last after running into a few old friends. Now I walk casually through the snow covered dark streets. I reach the Volturi building and enter it going to the reception desk. "Carlisle Cullen, Aro is expecting me" I tell the human receptionist.

She made a call and Felix appeared with Demetri. They escorted me to the throne room where Aro, Caius, and Marcus were waiting. "So glad you could make it Carlisle, she shall meet the human tomorrow" Aro tells me. "You may use the same hunting area as the last time you were here" he states.

"Thank you Aro, but I had a drink before entering Italy" I tell him. "How is the human?" I ask him.

"She is well, pale, weak but well" Aro assures me. "But I am no doctor, that is why you are here" he says smiling. "I expect you to keep the mother in good health before the birth and not let the child die" he states.

"Of course Aro, I will do my best to ensure the baby is alive and healthy when born" I assure him.

"Magnificent, now Demetri will show you to your room it is the same as last time. Also if you need any medical equipment inform Heidi or Demetri. They will get it for you or take you to get it" he explains. I bow my head before following Demetri out of the room. Once I was settled I took out the small book I took notes of Bella's pregnancy & Renesmee's birth in and begin to reread it.
