Lana is sprawled out beside me on her bed. She must be having a blissful dream by what I gather from her warm emotions. Thick lashes fan her flawless porcelain cheeks; her hair is loose, spread across her pillows. She looks like a heavenly being as the moonlight shines on her through the balcony doors.

Currently, I have another one of her books—Onyx—in grasp, having started and finished it already. It was a distraction from what happened when we dropped the girls off at Bella's. Now that I completed reading, I can't help but to visualize the events that had me all twisted up. Edward and I were both furious that we had to leave, all because a dog decided to go see Lana.

|Flashback|

While we backed out of the driveway, we heard the old man—Billy—cry out in horror. Billy and the dog both felt anger and disgust towards us while the younger one was confused by the old man's outburst.

Why couldn't the Quileutes mind their own business? The boy, Jacob, has already unknowingly broken the treaty. They'd better not push me, or Edward too far.

My brother was as distressed as I was while he stomped the gas pedal and we fled. Both of us fearful of having left our mates in the presence of an unstable wolf.

As we retreated, I heard Bella's father call out, "Billy!"

Fuming, we sped away through the streets of Forks until it occurred to Edward that it would be better to know what Billy Black had to say to Charlie than not. I didn't believe he would break the treaty his grandfather made with Carlisle. Especially, since one of the wolves were with him. Yet, I agreed to be certain Lana was safe.

My brother pulled the car to the curb a safe distance away to eavesdrop. We were too far away for me to feel their moods, but I still heard their voices. Rather than listen for Billy's voice, as I had intended to do, I couldn't resist listening to Lana instead.

"So how are things?" A husky, young male voice asked.

"Pretty good," Lana replied, sounding distracted. "Oh! And I found this amazing album on Spotify the other day. You will love it. Just remind me to show you once we are finished here."

"How about you? Did you finish your car?" Bella questions next.

"No. I still need parts. We borrowed that one," the husky voice, Jacob—Edward informed me—responded.

Someone cleared his throat stopping the conversation. It was quiet for a handful of moments before a deeper, cold, angry voice spoke, "Who was that leaving?"

"A few friends from school. They gave us a ride," Lana informed bluntly, her tone tinged in annoyance or worry.

He huffed loudly, clearly displeased with her answer. "What are their names?"

I could hear the reluctance in her voice, "Edward Cullen and Jasper Hale."

"You're friends with them?" Venom is wrapped around the last word, which caused me to sit up straight.

I glanced at Edward when his emotions turned anxious and I knew he heard it too. It had to be the dog. He was with my mate, most likely alone. To say I hated it would have been an understatement. I absolutely loathed the idea of her alone with him; he is dangerous.
