Chapter 9

Axl's Pov
(104th Trainee Squad is graduating soon)

Its about 7:00 in the morning and I havent slept a wink since Erwin told me I'm gonna present my life to children. And it's tonight. How fun.
I get up just before the sunrise and decide to get dressed. After that I go outside and lay in the grass. Staring at the beautiful sun. I used to always look at the sun when I was on my way back home from a robbery. It was very peaceful and it clams me down. Kind of settles my nerves. I close my eyes, feeling the wind blowing in my hair. I finally start to doze off and finally fall asleep.

I wake up a few hours later with Levi standing over my head looking very angry. He grabbed my arm and made me stand up.

"Have a good sleep?" He said in an angry tone.

"Sorry, sorry. I dozed off. Its not like I meant to do it. I havent slept in the past few days. Can you blame me?" He look at me with an annoyed kind of look.

"Look kid. Dont tell Erwin this but I only sleep two hours each night. If I can do that and be humanity's strongest then you can be a stupid titan shifter without sleeping for a few days." I was taken back in shock. I had absolutely no idea that he only slept two hours a night. I honestly just assumed that he slept all the time since he yells at me for sleeping all the time. Huh.

It was about noon and I'm supposed to be working on my speech. What I'm gonna say and what to leave out, what kind of attitude I will have. That kind of stuff. I proposed to Erwin that I could have a squad of my own. I mean I am the appropriate age to look over minors and I have the skills, so why not? He said he'd think about it but I know that just means he'll say no in a few days. I try my best to think of what to say but I cant seem to focus. I decided being stuck in a room all day wont do me any good so I see if anyone wants to spar with me. I go to Levi first.

"Hey shortie, wanna come spare with me? Im bored." He was doing some paperwork in his office.

"Souldnt you be working on your speech? Plus I'm busy doing paperwork." I roll my eyes.

"Fine bite-sized. Be that way." I left the room and went to Eld and Gunther's dorm.

"Either of you wanna spar? Im bored and need to do something." Eld was first to respond.

"Sorry Axl. We have to study these formations from Erwin. It's for the first mission with the newbies and we need to be prepared." I nodded and walked back to my dorm. Maybe Petra will be up for sparring? I walk up to her door and hear her singing again. I didnt know what she was doing but I didnt want to interrupt her. I laid back down on my bed and decide to take a quick nap. Maybe that will past the time and this will all be over soon.

Axl's Dream

I'm in the back of a courtroom and three familiar figures are chained to poles. The judge starts talking but all I hear is muffled words. I slowly walk forward to see the figures are Reiner, Annie, and Bertholdt. The judge's words are still muffled but a few key phrases become clear as day.

"You three are hear for the murder trial of Axl Smith. It says hear in my description that you three were close friends with her. Is that correct?" I look over to the stands and see Erwin crying. At this point I'm completely confused. Murder trial? MY murder? Those three would never hurt me. We're the closest of friends. Reiner responds to the judge's question.

"Yes sir. We used to live with her and be best friends."

"Now what is your reasoning for killing Ms. Smith?"

"She knew too much and was with the wrong side. She wasnt on our side anymore."

"Well I've made my conclusion. You three will be sentenced to death for third degree murder of a military offical." I was so confused and tears started pouring out of my teal-blue eyes. I started screaming.

"Stop! No! They dont deserve it!" But no one listen. It was as if no one could see me. Like I was. A ghost. My head started pounding and everything was blurry.

Dream Over

I shot out of my bed, terrified and crying. Levi was pounding on my door trying to wake me up.

"Axl! Open up!" I got up and opened the door. He stood there looking pissed off.

"Did you fall asleep again? Ya know what, that doesnt matter right now. It's time." I knew exactly what he was talking about. It was time for me to welcome the new kids.
