Forgetting Them All, Remembering the Few (OC fanfic)

Chapter 10

Axl's Pov

I wait on the side stage for Erwin to finish talking and make my que to go on. He had to basically scream because there were so many cadets there. He finally waves his hamd and Perta nudges me on. I awkwardly walk on stage and realize there are more cadets here than I thought. I try to put on a confident face and just say the damn speech.

"My name is Axl Smith. I am a past fugitive and current Survey Corps soldier. Im am here to discuss exactly what will be expected of you if you decide to join us. To be honest with all of you, it's going to be hell. We dont get much food and are said to be a waste of taxes. Heck, I didnt even want to join. I was forced into it by law. But understand this, me and all of these soldiers have a special bond. One that is stonger than friendship, like nothing you've seen before. We work as a team and are basically family. Our lives are trusted in each other. So I say as of now. If you wish to join the Survey Corps, the waste of taxes branch, the most hardworking branch, then stay. If not, you may leave and find the right representative for your new life." Almost the entire room left. Only about a dozen cadets stayed.

I look over them and see a familiar blonde walking away. She looked so cold when I saw her face. She just looked bored and didnt want to be here. It certainly wasnt the Annie I knew. This was probably just cause of their plan. She was gonna join the Military Police and the other two would join the Survey Corps. Speaking of the other two, I also saw them standing in the crowd. Looks like I'm gonna be seeing them quite often now. They stood next to each other with their arms behind their backs. I look around to see the other cadets that would be joining us. There was a brown headed girl with anxiety in her eyes, a girl next to him with black hair and a red scarf around her neck, and another kid next to them with blonde hair that just fell below his chin. There were more cadets that were there, but one caught my eye. He had blonde hair and brown under tones, he looked maybe 15 or so, and his face kind of looked like a horse. It was Jean. I thought to myself.

Why is Jean here?! I thought he was gonna join the MP! Did something happen? Was it my fault!?

Erwin interrupted my thoughts with his booming voice again.

"Can you die if you're ordered to?" A response cried from the group.

"I don't want to die!" Erwin looked down and then looked back up again, this time with a smile on his face.

"I see. I like the looks on your faces.... Then I welcome everyone here to the Survey Corps! This is a true salute!" He then proceeded to do the offical salute of the military. "Offer up your hearts!" All of the new soldiers saluted back and I did the same. These kids are now offical soldiers of the Survey Corps. Reiner and Bertholdt are now offical members. Jean is now a soldier.

Eld guided me to Erwin's office where all of the squad leaders were lined up with Erwin holding a paper in his hand.

"Wait. Why am I here? Im pretty sure I didnt do anything wrong." Eld guided me to the end of the lineup and took his place. Erwin then started talking.

"Axl. I've made my decision and have come to the conclusion that you are capable enough to run your own squad. I have the squads right here and where the new soldiers are going." I was jumping with excitement.

"Really! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you so much Erwin!!"

"Calm yourself. A leader cant be this childish." I stopped jumping and stood up straight.

"Now then. Eren Jeager is already with you, Levi and you have your own squad already so that will be it." Oh yeah. Did I mention? Eren Jeager is a titanshifter that is supposedly on our side. He exposed himself in the battle of Trost and is under Levi's surveillance. I must've completely forgot about it because I wasnt allowed at the battle. They wanted me to only go with them outside the walls and keep my energy up. They wouldnt allow me to go to the trial because we're both titanshifters and they still dont know our extended powers, so I wasnt allowed any contact with him whatsoever. Anyway, Erwin finished telling everyone their squads and all that was left was me.

"And finally Axl. You will only have the newbies to kind of ease them into this new life if fighting. In your squad will be Christa Lenz, Reiner Braun, Bertholdt Hoover, and Jean Kirstien." Of course I had to get them. Just. Thats how it all needs to play out apparently. Great.
