Tokugawa Kei comes from an extremely esteemed family. His ancestor being known as the man to unify Japan during its feudal era, his family is now mostly known for their swordsmanship and positions in Japanese politics. Kei is the second born son of Tokugawa Shinobu, who is the Japanese ambassador to the United States, and Tokugawa Kyo who died giving birth to Kei. This led to Shinobu to name him Kei, which means great gift or blessing, to symbolize that he was the last gift his wife gave to him.Kei had an older brother named Hiroki, who died when Kei was nine years old in a car accident. This left Kei the only surviving heir to his fathers' estate. Kei and his brother shared a close bond, which led Kei to be deeply affected by his death. Kei and his father become very close after Hiroki's passing, even though they had often butted heads. Shinobu says often of how much of himself he sees in Kei, which is the reason he believes he and his son argue so often.
The Tokugawa clan is most well-known for its talents in swordsmanship, as well as producing excellent scholars. Kei was expected to master not only the sword, but many arts such as poetry and different instruments. When Kei is very young he rejected this, as he would rather focus on the sword than music and poetry. He also lacked discipline in his schoolwork. His father was very hard on Kei as he wanted all his sons to exceed him. Kei differed from his brother, Hiroki as Hiroki excelled in all his studies ad was a well-behaved child while Kei was rebellious. After Hiroki's death Kei became more like Hiroki and became top of his class and focused on mastering arts as well the sword.
Being a member of the Tokugawa clan, Kei has always been treated highly, even by his elders. His teachers and caregivers would use the honorific "sama," even when he was very young. This happens even as he enters elementary school and follows him through on into even his high school career. His peers adopt this honorific while addressing him as well. This caused Kei to lack friends as most see him as above them and his classmates felt too intimidated to approach him. Kei's only friends in his grade were Haninozuka Mitsukuni and Morinozuka Takashi as both families served as servants to the Tokugawa's for centuries. Mitsukuni and Takashi form a strong bond with Kei, that becomes stronger after Hiroki's passing. Both boys view themselves as Kei's protector's due to their martial arts prowess as Kei's swordsmanship is second to none but his hand to hand combat is not as developed as Mitsukuni and Takashi's. Mitsukuni and Takashi are also the only ones, beside Kei's father, to not refer to him under the honorific "sama," instead calling him Kei.
When Kei was approached by Tamaki, who asked him to join the host club, Tamaki referred to Kei as "sempai," rather than the usual "sama," which pleased Kei as he had never been referred to in that manner. This led to Kei to agree to join the club as Tamaki had earned his respect. What Kei didn't realize at the time was that Tamaki was simply still slightly ignorant to Japanese history and culture, it wasn't until Tamaki was reprimanded by Kyoya that he referred to Kei in his established honorific "sama." Although Kei is slightly disappointed by this, he is given his own nickname by the host club after getting to know the members. The host members, excluding Hani and Mori, began to refer to Kei as "Toku-sama," shortening his last name but maintaining the honorific. This greatly pleased Kei as he had never been given a nickname.
About: Kei is a third year with Mitsukuni and Takashi. He is seventeen with long dark brown hair, almost black at times, his eyes are a golden hue and he stands at 5 feet 11 inches. (To answer most of your questions, although Kei is the more submissive partner, I feel he could be pretty versatile as well, but if you want to think of him strictly as an Uke that is fine too, lol.)
Family: Tokugawa Shinobu(Father), Tokugawa Kyo(Mother-Deceased), Tokugawa Hiroki(Brother-Deceased)
Combat skills: Master of all forms of swordsmanship, as well as archery, his hand to hand combat skills are low compared to Mitsukuni and Takashi's but hes not completely defenseless.
Relationship Status: Engaged, won't be discussed until later in the chapters
Extra: The Tokugawa clan grow their hair long to honor their samurai heritage.
