Chapter 12: Ending...?

"Ah."

You kneeled on the wooden floorboard and scrubbed away the last piece of dirt you failed the find. Satisfied with your work, you stood back up, threw your bucket with the dirtied water overboard, and placed it together with your other cleaning equipment in the storage room. It had been weeks since he left. You refused to remember anything about him. Anything he taught you.

You had your old, dead eyes again. Your life was boring again.

You had seen everything in this world. You knew everything about this world.

All except one thing.

"KAH!"

You looked up to the sky. It was a rather cloudy day, making the Mail Seagull stand out a bit with his snowwhite feathers and blue hat. It was probably the newspaper. But after it came closer, you saw it was no ordinary mailbird. It was a Governement Official Newsbird. It's blue hat was imprinted with Fleet Admiral Sengoku's own personal symbol. When it reached your ship, it dropped a package down and immediately flew away.

A package?

You were confused by the sudden appearance of a Governement Official News seagull. For you? You sighed.

You didn't care what was in it. It was already uncommon for you to receive packages.

You especially lost all care in the world after getting your heart teared into pieces.

Without hesitation, you opened the rather large package. You were surprised to see it was sent to you by Impel Down. The world's greatest prison for the most dangerous criminals? What was inside the package however, surprised you even more.

It was Ace's hat. His bright orange cowboyhat, with his decorative red beads and his thin round wooden happy and sad faces. There was a letter on top of the hat, which you opened.

"Hey (y/n).

No words can even start to explain how sorry I am for leaving you so soon. Too soon. I know you must have been in pain, which makes me hate myself for doing so. But I had no choice.

He was already here. The man who killed my brother. I saw him and his crew near the island on his ship. He saw you and me. He knew at that moment I was chasing him.

My suspicions were confirmed when I met up with him on the island. The bastard tried to make me join his crew first, which I declined. We then started fighting.

I was planning on winning, (y/n). I really was. Even more when he said he was going after you next.

You must have been so shocked to see me missing you probably didn't notice you weren't near the island anymore. You're really forgetful sometimes (y/n), I hope this happened under my influence! Before I left, I directed your ship as far as possible from the island. I needed to keep you safe. If I won, I wanted to find you safe and sound back.

But I lost. I lost, (y/n). I lost my conscious and woke up in Impel Down.

I... I really fear I won't be able to see you again, my dearest (y/n). I'm going to be executed. By the time you get this letter, the Marines will probably announce my execution.

He was going to be executed? Ace? Suddenly you remembered it again. You had cancelled out all memories of him. All thoughts about him.

The Marines announced his execution on Marineport. He didn't suddenly leave; he left to protect you. The boy you cherished, you loved...

Something inside of you snapped. Your loving memories of Ace came flooding back. Your eyes gained life again.

You made up your mind.

You took out his hat and put it on. It was too big for you, but you didn't care. Running as fast as you could, you took the wheel, turning it 180 degrees.

You were going to save him.

With your hands on the wheel, you forced your ship to turn towards the location of your loved one.

You knew how to get there. You learnt how to fight.

With a small smile and a spark of confidence, you sailed towards the horizon.

You knew everything in this world already.

You knew you were going to save Ace.

And the moment you'd see him again, you knew what you were going to say:

"Come with me."
