I wake up the next day and my back feels great. She must’ve already healed it while I was sleeping. I reach under my bed for my bag when I see a box with a note on it. I pull it out from under my bed and set it on my lap. It has some weight to it. “To Beacon’s best leader.”
“Well, open it.” I look up and see Lilac standing there. “Go on!” I set the note aside and neatly unfold the paper. I take the top off and inside a specially designed box was a silver piece of metal. I pick it up and quickly recognize the design. It folds out into AR mode. “Makes me sad that I got rid of the harness.” I look up and she’s got a big grin on her face. She takes her hands out from behind her back and presents me with a bag. Inside is a new harness. I’m honestly speechless. I sit on my bed and look over the gifts. “How’d you even-”
“Your teacher at Signal remembered you quite fondly. He kept your weapon’s blueprint on file as an example toward multipurpose tool design. When I told him what happened at the docks he was thrilled with the idea of helping you get a new scythe.” So much thought, so much time. For something I thought was lost forever. I fold it back up and pull out the leg holster. “I just want to show you one last thing.” She opens it into scythe mode and I see it, right down the handle. “Aries the Wolfsbane” written clear as day. I fold it up and holster it. I’m speechless, I have no idea what to say. “Lilac…”
“Yeah?” Without thinking I pull her into a tight hug. Tears of joy streaming down my face. “Thank you so much!” She smiles and returns the hug. We step back and I look into her beaming eyes. Something deep inside seems to light up at seeing her so happy. I attach the scythe to the new harness and it folds into a pair of wings. “M’lady?” I hold out a hand and she takes it. We walk over to the window and step out onto the ledge. The jets fire up and We slowly lift off the ground. I use telekinesis to allow her to fly beside me. We soar into the clouds and fly, free like a pair of birds. I look over as we’re flying along and the world seems to all away, all I see is the wind blowing her hair, her eyes glimmering in the early morning sun. I must’ve lost concentration as she falls out of the sky. “Lilac, no!” I fold back the wings and hit the jets full blast. I catch up and grab her out of the air. I fold the wings back out and land gently, with her laying in my arms. “You can open your eyes now.” She looks around and sees us on the ground. I let her down and fold up the wings. I watch her walk away and my stomach starts to feel weird. Almost like someone stuck a mixer in my gut. “Lilac…”
“Yeah?”
“What did you mumble that day?” She looks me in the eye and her expression changes. She looks at the ground then walks away. I feel some words fall out in a mumble as well but she doesn’t seem to notice. Hell I don’t even notice what falls out of my mouth. I walk up to the room and get ready for classes. The whole day I can’t focus. My mind keeps drifting to Lilac. The next few days my mind is a clouded mess. On friday night, I decide to fly down to Vale and see Pyrrha and Jaune training. I can sense Pyrrha is frustrated so I float over. “You alright?”
“Oh, hello Aries. You not able to sleep?”
“Just got a head full of cotton. Pyrrha, can I ask you an honest question?”
“Sure.”
“These last few days I've been, distracted. I can’t get my head on straight. Every time I try to focus my mind just drifts off topic and onto Lilac.”
“You want my take on it?”
“Yeah?”
“I think your heart is trying to get the attention of your mind.”
“What?”
“You like Lilac!”
“What? No that’s...no you’re crazy.” I laugh but I also feel my cheeks burning.
