"Play the song you sang long ago, and wherever the storm may blow-"
"You will find the key to my heart."
"We'll never be apart..."Jonathan leapt back in his seat as a large, golden-brown owl flew out from the shadows and landed on Vanoss's shoulder.
"What the fuck is that?!," Jonathan backed away, still sitting.
"This is my pet; I call him Gold Piece," Vanoss answered, "Isn't that right my precious bird?~"
The owl cooed as it clearly enjoyed Vanoss petting him. It turned its eyes back on Jonathan; it suddenly flew over to him and landed right on his lap. He was terrified of this bird, and wasn't afraid to show it as he kept waiting in tense for the animal to do its next move. Vanoss enjoyed seeing Jonathan, or, "Mr. Denis", nervous like this as Gold Piece got on his shoulder. It looked at the chain around Jonathan's neck. It took it in its beak, pulling it right of the poor man's neck.
"Hey!," Jonathan shouted, "Give that back!"
Gold Piece flew back to Vanoss with it, and handed the locket to him. Vanoss pat the bird on its head, giving it a piece of meat.
"Now what do we have here?," Vanoss chuckled, "I knew a man liked his jewelry, but I haven't even bothered checking."
"Give that back," Jonathan growled.
"Or what?"
Jonathan felt anger bubble inside of him; lighting struck across the sky, and the waves got rougher. He glared at Vanoss, the lightning making his blue eyes illuminate.
"Give it back," Jonathan ordered.
Vanoss started to form a frown as he got up from his seat, the locket still in his hand.
"I don't think so," Vanoss said lowly, "Not with that attitude. I think I should hold onto this for a while until you learned some manners."
Jonathan's hand bawled into a fist. Outside the storm got more violent to the point the whole boat rocked side to side where it looked it would tip over. Vanoss held the locket in front of Jonathan's face.
"And I think you should spend a little more time locked up too. I can even have your friends executed at my will."
Jonathan's knuckles turned white; wave upon wave keep slamming against the boat.
"Oh, you wouldn't like that? Would you-"
Jonathan snapped; he lept at him, forcing him to the ground. The locket fell out of the captain's grasp as he struggled to keep the other man's punches from hitting him. Jonathan attempted to strangle him as well until he was kicked off. He got slammed against a wall, and barely dodged a sword attack from Vanoss. Jonathan managed to grab the locket and escaped back outside where he was met by icy winds with pounds of rain.
He saw everything in chaos and he raced away when he saw Vanoss coming. Jonathan ran against the storm as he was pursued by the pirate captain. Vanoss saw a huge wave coming towards his ship, and he looked back up at Jonathan who was in a vulnerable spot.
"Mr. Denis!," he called out.
The man turned towards his voice; Vanoss felt as if the whole world froze. Lightning flashed behind Jonathan making his eyes brighten, his skin glow for just a second. Vanoss felt entranced, but the wave pulled him back to reality. It was too late though. The wave came down hard, and Jonathan vanished with it.
Vanoss looked for him with wide terrified eyes.
"DENIS!," he screamed out.
Jonathan struggled against the raging cold waters. His head popped up once and awhile until he was dragged back down. He managed to spot the ship.
"Help!," he cried out, "I'm over here! Help!"
Vanoss heard the cry and turned to the voice; there was no hesitation when he dove into the water and swim to him. Jonathan took one last gulp of air before he sunk into the water. He felt tired of struggling, wanting to give up. He felt his eyes begin to close as he drifted down deeper. An arm wrapped around his waist as he was pulled upwards.
Vanoss breached the water and made a swim for the nearest ship. He and Jonathan were pulled up while a flag of a boar's head waved rapidly in the wind. Jonathan was placed onto the deck as people gathered around him.
"Jonathan!," Jonathan heard his friend Craig call out, "Wake up! Please!"
Jonathan opened his eyes by a little; he saw Craig, another captain, other pirates, and of course Vanoss. Vanoss held him close, making sure that there was still body warmth in him. Jonathan wanted to speak, but he felt like his lips were iced shut, and all that came out were struggled whimpers.
"You're safe now," he heard Vanoss say, "It's alright."
Jonathan felt cold, his whole body trembling, and he felt his eyes close again; the storm began to subside from a dark night. His mother's locket was still clutched in his hand.
