"Finally, a fresh start!" Neil thought, approaching the massive, red brick university. Granted, it wasn't Harvard, but it was the next best thing. Oakford University, only thirty minutes away from his hometown. His phone buzzed, and he pulled it out. He wasn't surprised to see it was a text from Max.
Max: so, hows college treating ya?
Neil: Classes haven't even started yet.
Neil: How's senior year?
Max: hell
Max: Preston was blowing my phone up earlier
Neil: I'm not surprised.
Max: You better not hurt him.
Neil: I'm probably not even going to talk to him.
Max: but then he's gonna be lonelyyyyy
Max: and getting me in trouble with textssss
Max: nvm, he said Harrison's with him
Neil: You're joking.
Max: ???
"Harrison's here?" The brunet muttered under his breath as he typed.
                                 "Yes, he is!" someone gushed.
Neil flinched and whipped around. He let out a sigh of relief when he realized it was just Preston. The relief soon vanished when he saw who was with him.
"Can you believe it?" Preston grinned, grabbing the strawberry blond's arm. "My magical best friend is here!"
Harrison smirked and gave Neil a charming look. Most girls would've melted at the sight, but Neil just scoffed. "And my ex-crush."
He coughed awkwardly. "Hello, Neil. Long time no see."
"Is been five months," the other said bitterly. "Not long enough if you ask me."
"Now as much as I love a good cat fight..." Preston murmured, stepping in between them. "Now's not the time."
Harrison nodded and took a step back once, glaring at his ex love interest. Neil held back a growl as they started walking.
"So Preston, do you have a roommate yet?" his magical friend asked, averting his gaze from Neil. The theatrical boy laughed. "I go home every night. I'm not staying in a dorm."
"Do you go home to a tired, lovesick senior?" Neil cracked. Preston laughed again. "Tired, yes. Lovesick is more directed to me."
They all snickered as the walked towards the registration tables.
Harrison felt Neil's eyes burning into the back of his skull and fought the urge to turn around. "Just because you still like him doesn't mean you have to give him the satisfaction he's won," he reminded himself.
"Guess I'll just have the school room me with someone," Neil sighed. Preston nodded and stopped in his tracks. "Well, I'm going to find a less crowded table. See ya!" And with that, he was off, auburn hair bouncing.
They both sighed and exchange a glare. It was going to be a long semester.
