Chapter 14

*Aaron*

My heart pounds, threatening to beat out of my chest. Two years I've been waiting to hear those three little words escape her lips again. All this time I've wondered if she still has feelings for me, if she somehow forgot her feelings for me. I wondered if there was any chance at getting her back. Those three words were the only confirmation I need.

I can't help the smile that spreads across my face at the thought of her being mine again. To be able to hold her hand, to feel her warmth in my arms, to taste her lips, to stay up late at night talking, to do the things I've missed doing with her for two years. After tonight, there's no reason the fear of rejection should stop me from making a move.

A loud knock at the door breaks me from my thoughts. Victoria releases a sigh as she stirs and settles again. The knock comes again and Victoria's face forms the slightest frown. I stand from my spot and rush to the door before the culprit knocks again and wakes her.

I open the door just a crack and am instantly annoyed at the sight of Colton. His breathing is a bit heavy and I assume he rushed to get here.

"What are you doing here?" I ask, my annoyance leaking into my voice.

"I can ask you the same thing. Where's Victoria?" He tries to look over my shoulder. "Nadine said she was sick."

"She's sleeping it off. Leave before you wake her." I start to shut the door, but Colton's hand shoots out, stopping it. He pushes hard, shoving the door open and causing me to stumble back. I watch with surprise as he strolls inside as if he lives here.

"I'm not leaving her here with you." He says as he goes straight to Victoria's side. A mixture of anger and jealousy washes over me as he crouches down and places a kiss on top her head as he brushes a lock of hair from her face.

"Don't touch her." I say, pushing the door shut and rushing over to separate him from her. "She's not yours anymore."

He stands at the sound of my approach, and his height and glare matches mine. "Back off." He says. "She's more mine than yours. What we had was a misunderstanding. What you had was a heartbreak."

"She's forgiven me for what I did to her, but she still hates you. So, in that case I'd say she's more mine than yours." I smirk. His hand balls into a fist, and it amuses me more that I got under his skin. "Hit me and she'll hate you even more." His fist unclenches as his glare hardens. He mumbles something under his breath before brushing by me and taking a seat on Nadine's bed. He lays down and pulls out his phone. "Why are you getting comfortable? Leave."

"I'm not leaving her alone with you." He says, his eyes not leaving his phone. "If you're not leaving, then I'm staying. I can easily wait you out. Besides, it's not like I haven't slept here before." He smirks and I'm hit with another pang of anger and jealousy. Of course he's slept here before. It was only two weeks ago they were dating. I shiver as my mind wanders to what else could have happened between them in this room. "Just know that if you fall asleep first, I'm dragging you out of here."

I scoff before yanking the pillow from beneath his head. He looks at me in shock as I take the pillow and sit on the floor, placing the pillow behind my back as I lean against Vicky's bed. "I'm not tired, so you won't have to worry about dragging me anywhere."

"Why don't you give up?" He asks, suddenly sitting up and facing me. "Why can't you let her move on without you? If you really cared, you'd let her be happy."

"Yet you're here two weeks after your breakup. Shouldn't you follow your own advice?"

"Vicky and I had an argument. Before you showed up back in her life, we'd always work through our problems within a day or two. You came back followed by a tsunami of memories that only reminds her of anger and heartbreak. She broke things off with me because she's afraid to get hurt again. I'm still here because I patiently waited a year for her. I'm ready to prove that I'm not afraid to wait another. Vicky is the love of my life. You, on the other hand, just found an old toy and suddenly have the desire to play with it again."
