alone, bleeding, shivering was guanlin when jihoon managed to find him at the edge of the produce river banks, water splashing up against the tall boy's feet as he couldn't walk due to a large gash on his thigh that bled through the cloth of his ripped jeans. he was borderline passing out when jihoon found him, the young boy's eyes fluttering.
jihoon first took the boy to the hospital then notified the rest of the mnet county police unit that he had found the missing boy, ignoring the anger of the sheriff, who was livid at the fact that jihoon broke a rule that was set in stone.
now the boys sat, at 2am, in the waiting room of the emergency room, half of them asleep due to the lengthy amount of time they had spent searching for the 15 year old genius. their sleep was disrupted violently when seonho barged into the emergency room, rushing to the counter to throw as many questions as he could at the poor boy at the desk.
"is he okay? why did he go missing? is he going to die? is he awake? can i visit him? does he have to go through surgery? will he come back to me?"
the desk boy, an awkward age of 22, looked overwhelmed. "uh, i cannot tell you anything as of now, but we expect him to survive, worst case is that he gets an infection and loses his leg."
"loses his leg?" seonho asked incredulously, his eyes wide, "what happened to him, can't you tell me that?"
youngmin diverted his gaze away from seonho, chewing on his bottom lip. "there isn't a report on the case yet, but from what i saw he's cut up on his leg really bad and around his face."
"who the fuck gave you your job." seonho growled, glaring at youngmin then shoving himself off the counter he was leaning on, turning around to see the officers lined up on the waiting chairs.
taemin, who noticed seonho's inquiries upon guanlin's condition, and as the only one of the officers not falling back asleep, motioned the young boy over. unspoken sentences were exchanged with mere eye contact, and eventually seonho stumbled, exhausted from the worry he had for his best friend.
seonho slumped over in the chair next to taemin, his head in his hands, his back shaking. taemin sighed softly, rubbing the younger boy's shoulders soothingly. "your friend guanlin, he's not going to die. his leg isn't even as bad as the desk person said. i'm sure he'll come back to you, just with a few scars here and there. from what i heard, your love for him could he enough to keep him alive."
"you better not be spitting bullshit," seonho sniffled softly, taking his head out of his hands, his eyes looking somber, "nothing is worse than false hope."
taemin laughed lightly, patting the taller boy. "it's my job to state the truth, i would never lie, especially about something like this. now, if we're here being truthful to each other, do you know anybody that might want to have done this to guanlin?"
seonho sat up, suddenly looking deep in thought. "there was this one guy called dongho... super scary looking dude, apparently he had something with guanlin due to family conflicts."
"family conflicts?"
seonho shrugged. "guanlin never really went into depth about the situation, but it has something to do with him declining arranged marriage."
taemin nodded, his intelligent brain soaking in all the information. "thank you, i'll have to look into him. is there perhaps anybody else?"
"well, there was a situation with this dude that's absolutely batshit crazy over guanlin called euiwoong."
---
"i'm gonna go to the bathroom and stop by guanlin's room," jihoon informed eunki as he stood up, "so if anything important rolls around, please come fetch me."
