daehwi blinked open his eyes, instantly feeling the embrace of comfortable fabric wrapped around his sore body, his head practically melting into the pillow. sitting up in a panic, causing his head to spin, daehwi scanned his surroundings, soothed by the peaceful, clean light gray walls and the gentle light filtering through the slightly darker gray blinds hanging over the window.

on a bed closer to the covered window was woojin, drool slipping out the side of his mouth, the blanket haphazardly over his chest. his twisted leg was put in a cast, professionally as if a doctor had come to treat them, which may have been so, considering the men that picked them up before they passed out looked wealthy and extremely busy.

his wonders heightened when the door opened and one of those two men entered, the one with darker hair and a scratch over his eyebrow. the man was tiny, but his presence made him much more intimidating than he should have been. his dark eyes scanned the room briefly, freezing when he saw daehwi looking back at him.

the man smiled, entering the room fully and closing the foot behind him. "hello, daehwi. are you feeling better?"

daehwi scrunched his eyebrows. "uh yeah... uh, how do you know my name?"

the man laughed cheerily, walking towards daehwi. "daehwi, i'll answer questions that you and woojin have later when namhyung returns. the only answers i'll give you currently is that you and woojin are being sheltered due to your mental and physical injuries, and my name is jeong dongsu."

daehwi's eyes bulged and he leaned forwards. "jeong dongsu?! aren't you the multi billionaire?"

dongsu smiled mysteriously. "i'll answer questions later, daehwi. now, if you don't mind me asking a question of my own, who is your current guardian? i wish to contact them and inform of yours and woojin's conditions, as i assume you have the same guardian."

"our gu-"

the door suddenly slammed open, namhyung tripping into the room, his suit crumpled and blond hair messily over his face. "dongsu, are they awake?"

dongsu glared at the slightly taller man, kicking him in the shin. "dumbass, look around before you go yelling out everything."

namhyung looked confused, then saw daehwi staring at him. "oh. daehwi, i actually wanted to ask you how you got that gunshot on your chest, since you seemed better than your friend earlier."

daniel was alone. surrounded by friends overjoyed at graduating, his family screeching from the stands, he was alone. there was no jisung there, jisung yelling the loudest, no jisung falling out of the stands out of excitement, no jisung to push him over once he came over, no jisung to cry that daniel finally graduated.

he was alone. nobody here, cheering loudly, happiness weighed in their hearts, knew that jisung was gone. these people surrounding him would never understand that their community just lost the best person that could ever exist. alone - he was the only one with a heavy heart, the only one holding back tears that weren't happy.

feeling like somebody that couldn't fit in, never fit in with all these terribly joyful people, daniel wandered away from the university, hardly seeing with his eyes, feet stumbling over rocks and roots that littered the campus. he had a faraway look in his eyes, and his slick look that was groomed for this special graduation day made his soul seem misplaced.

daniel was alone.

the officers and detectives eventually had to return to the office to meet apprentices that minhyun had decided to welcome into the office whilst such a case was happening so they could learn from experience.

shihyun had vanished halfway through the small investigation of jisung's death scene, and when the hoard of officers walked back, he reappeared with a busted lip and bruises scattered across his shoulder and face, a small portion of his clothes torn, exposing more of his discolored collarbone.

"what happened to you?" taemin asked curiously, poking a particularly black spot of skin on the other boy's body. shihyun's face scrunched from the pain, and he slapped taemin's probing hand away.

"just longguo... he was all spouting how i told jaewoo something and that i shouldn't have and that i'll pay."

"he's such a dick," taemin growled, glaring in the direction of the foreigner boy, "sometimes i wish the killer would just burn him."

shihyun waved his hands in front of his face. "no no, don't wish death upon anyone! it's okay, longguo was just confused about something, it's not his fault."

"not his fault," taemin repeated with a mocking tone, "was he possessed by somebody then? i'm quite sure it was his hand that bruised you, not anybody else's."

jinyoung shuffled to shihyun's side, brushing shoulders with the fluffy haired boy. "shihyun, don't make excuses for him. if he's hurting you, he's hurting you. there's no other way to answer it."

"i guess so," shihyun whispered, his eyes locked on longguo in front of them, seeming awfully anxious.

daniel held a lighter in his hands, flicking the small flame on and off, staring at it without seeming to register any of his surroundings. sat at the bus stop, many passerby looked at him oddly, as if they considered a boy wrapped in his graduation outfit was something out of the normal.

sat next to daniel was a boy clad in an officer's attire, his uneven eyelids setting him unique compared to anybody else daniel's come across in his time wandering around. the boy was panting, hair clung to his forehead by sweat, his chest heaving.

"you're kang," jihoon gasped in a breath, "kang daniel, correct?"

daniel nodded, his slicked back hair falling over his forehead. "yeah."

jihoon took one last sharp breath in, then patted daniel's shoulder kindly. "i was sent by my boss to just ask you a couple questions on jisung's case."

daniel's eyes fogged when he heard the name of his friend. "ask away. i've got nothing better to do."
