Chapter Six
For the next few hours, Jay and I floated from group to group. I met heaps of new people, and caught up with most of the people from my own pack. Everyone seemed to be really nice, well, except the heirs. They were just rude. I never thought for a single second that just because my dad is an alpha, I’m better than the rest of my pack. The opposite, even. At least they can all shift.
Not wanting to let my ecstatic mood be brought down, I shoved those thoughts away. I was on my third cup of coke when the crowd suddenly went quiet. Everyone turned to the top of a hill, where a young guy was standing. I couldn’t really see what he looked like from where I was, but he seemed to be our age. Definitley not a camp leader; those guys were old and powerful wolves.
“Is everybody having a good time?” He yelled, his voice confident and loud. The crowd mumbled in response.
“I said, is everybody having a good time!” This time, he was met with cheers and whoops. The figure fist pumped the air, and everyone laughed. I glanced at Jay, waiting for him to explain, but he just looked bored.
“Welcome, welcome, welcome. Now before you pups get too rowdy, I just want to introduce myself. I’m Tyler Gray, and ladies and gentlemen, I’m your go to man!” Everyone cheered again.
“What’s this guy’s deal?” I asked Jay.
Jay just shook his head. “Does this every year. Thinks he’s the valedictorian or something. Everyone loves him.” I couldn’t help but pick up on the slight annoyance in his tone. Jealousy, maybe? It does take a lot of guts to get up infront of this many teenagers.
“You need a block of chocolate to impress your girl? I got you covered. You need to sneak off campus to do something private? No problem! You need a shoulder to cry on, well... I’ve got friends for that.. I’m kidding ladies!” He laughed, and everyone laughed along with him.
“I’m simply here to make your lives better. So you know who to call! Enjoy the rest of your night!” And with that, he jogged down the hill and got lost amongst the crowd.
Well. He sounded like quite the character... I didn’t really think I’d be needing his help much though.
A few hours later, we had given up on standing, and were sitting with a small group of people. Well, Jay was sitting; I had my head in his lap and his jacket over me like a blanket. I was exhausted; it had been a very exciting day. This was my favourite time; Jay would play with my hair and I would be enveloped in his smell. For a guy, he smelt amazing. Just saying.
“...last week. I’m telling you; it was crazy.” Everyone laughed, and I smiled groggily. I couldn’t remember anyone’s name for the life of me, and to be honest, I was falling asleep rapidly.
“Oh yeah? Well I’ve seen it happen in a public toilet! All I was trying to do was pee, but this girl came barging in, demanding to stare every guy in the eye! The poor bastard that was her mate was literally caught with his pants down!” One of the guys told his story, laughing so hard I thought he might burst into tears.
Jay’s fingers twisted through my hair, and I nestled further into his jacket, closing my eyes, ready to give in to sleep.
“So how did you guys find out?” A female voice asked.
“Sorry, what?” Jay’s voice said quietly, aware that I was asleep. Or trying to.
“How did you find out you’re mates?”
