Chapter 19

Leah’s POV

“I think that it was more of an; I trespassed and that would have likely happened even if your mate was around.”  I pointed out, not getting what he meant by, ‘I found you’.

“You don’t get it.”  He said stepping closer to me, “I think I like you.  Well, I think my wolf likes you too.”

“Mark-“  I started.

“Don’t say anything, please.”  I could see the pain of anticipation in his features. 

“I just don’t know what to do.  I haven’t made up my mind about Jeremy yet.”  I put my head in my hands and let out a frustrated sigh.

“You would take him back?  After he did what he did?”  He was clenching his jaw and his jaw muscle was twitching, I could tell he was aggravated. 

“He’s my mate.  My natural mate.”  I tried to convince myself more than I was trying to convince Mark.

“Keyword, natural.  Not everyone stays with their god given mates.  It hasn’t happened in a couple hundred years, but it has happened.”  He was trying to make me see reason.

“I need some time.”

“I’m sorry, Leah.  My wolf is making me move too fast.  Please forgive me.”  He stepped away from me, giving me my space. 

“I just need my space.”  I said going back to my room and locking the door.

I sat there for four days, then a noise forced me out of my room’s safe boundaries.

Jeremy’s POV

I led the men onto Mark’s territory.  They hid themselves as I went to the pack house.  I knocked on the door and Mark answered, “Why are you on my land again?  You need to leave.”  He growled.

“I’m giving you one more chance to give me back my mate and the Luna of our pack.”  I said full of the authority an Alpha holds.

“You need to leave, you have no business with my back members. “

“She is NOT one of your pack members!”  I growled in frustration and anger.

“Really?  Cam you use your pack link to talk to her?  No.  You want to know why?  It is because she is not part of mine.”  He has left me no choice, his rambling set off my wolf.

“Then you leave me no choice.”  I walked back to the forest where my pack was hiding in wait.  “This is war.”  My pack sprang forward and anyone in our way was going down.  However, I get Mark.

He charged at me as men from his pack reacted to my men.  He jumped in the air and shifted, lunging at me.  I shifted just as swiftly.  He tried to bite my neck, which could have been fatal.  But, I moved just in time and he bit down on my shoulder blade instead.

This is how it went on for mere minutes before what I feared, ended up happening.

Leah’s POV

“Ow!”  I yelped as I felt the pain of teeth sinking into my shoulder blade and claws hitting my skin.

But, I was in the hallway alone, no one was hurting me.  I could hear the noises of howling wolves, snapping bones, and aggressive growling coming from outside. 

I pushed through the pain and ran out to the front porch, stopping in my tracks.

In front of me wolves and people lay dead on the ground.  The ones living were in battle.

My wolf kicked in.

I was still in human form, but my adrenaline was pumping.  I ran into the yard and stopped, unable to move. 

I saw Jeremy and Mark aggressively attacking each other.  Then, Jeremy noticed me and let his guard down.  Mark took the opportunity to send a claw across Jeremy’s face.

It sent a rippling pain across my cheeks.  Then, Mark turned and noticed me, while Jeremy,  who seemed unfazed by the attack, was frozen and staring at me. 

My inability to pay attention was my biggest mistake; a claw that was meant for a different wolf swiped my shoulder and dug in deep.

My arm felt like it was on fire.  I instinctively grabbed my shoulder, only to feel my hand slip through my own blood.  ‘We have to shift, you’re losing too much blood for me to heal you in human form.’  My wolf instructed.

I quickly shifted and ran toward the safety of the woods.

That was my second mistake.  A beg, brown wolf jumped me and started to claw away at my defenseless body.

I tried to fight to get away from him, but he was too big and too strong for me to defend myself.

All of a sudden he was gone and Mark’s human form was standing over me, “Not again!  No, no not again!  Not to you too!”

Jeremy came into my sight with Kyle and another man, “Take him into the house and don’t let him out of your sight.”  Jeremy commanded, so Kyle and the man took Mark into the pack house, by force.

“Leah.”  Jeremy said as my wolf slowly drained of power and brought me back to human form, “What were you thinking?  You almost killed yourself!”  He said as he gripped my face gently in his hands.  “Oh god, Babe.”  He ran his hands over my burning body.  “Please hold on, don’t give up on me.  I love you, Leah!”  He kissed my forehead and picked me up.

He carried me back to Mark’s pack house, “We need a pack doctor, now!”  He yelled.

“Is she okay?  Tell me she is okay!”  Mark said from a room I could tell was far away.

I am fighting this dark feeling in my body, that is telling me to close my eyes and let go. 

NO!  I won’t let that happen!

“Shut up!  She is none of your concern!  Do you see her?!  This is because you were too foolish to give her back!”  He yelled and if I wasn’t so tired and beaten, I would have found it extremely sexy.

“What’s going on?”  Asked a new voice.

“Are you the doctor?  She is hurt bad, I need her to be okay!  I can’t lose her!”  He laid me down on something that felt like a couch.

“I’ll do my best.”  The voice that I assumed was the doctor.

Then everything went black.

Jeremy’s POV

The doctor kicked us all out of the living room as he treated her wounds. 

Five hours later he walked out.  I knew it wasn’t good, several times I felt my wolf drain of hope and slowly start to die.

“She is stable, for now.  I lost her twice.  However, I got her back and she is fine.  But, she will need to rest and I don’t want anyone in there for several hours.”  He said strictly.

I agreed, so while I waited I took care of an issue; Mark.

During which I learned he had the guts to tell me he loved her.  Being another Alpha I had no right to punish him with death or pain.  However, threats weren’t against our laws.  If he does come in contact with her again, I plan on ripping him limb from limb.  When I let him know, I didn’t hold back from any gory details.

To say he wouldn’t come near her, unless he has a death wish, would be correct.
