Chapter 5: Homework

Jane's POV

...

When I get to school I am greeted by Amy's loud, screeching voice.

"JANEEE!!" She screams, deserting the girls she was just conversing with. "Jane! Darling!" she fake kisses my cheeks and pulls her Phone out of her bag. "Smile!" She takes a selfie, I half smile and pull out the peace sign. "I've got got got! to tell you some a-mazing news! but later." She squeals and hugs me, then she walks away.

When I get to class I walk to the front, hand in my homework. Sitting down at my desk I open my novel and read. Once everyone gets into the class, The teacher starts yapping on about school essays and behavior and how we should do our homework. The usual stuff.

A certain "Hey miss!" I recognize interrupts Ms Chickpea's spat. "You're late. But since your new I'll let you off, but beware Mr Connors ." She tries to be all tough and strict, but honestly it doesn't work, I should tell her that she should drop the act, but I'll keep my mouth shut so I'll pass.

He nods in understanding, slumping down in the seat next to me. "Hey." I say fidgeting with my thumbs. He nods and opens his book, I go back to listening to Miss rant on again.

...

After a little while, I feel a light tap on my shoulder. "Hey, um. do you have a pencil?" Eli mumbles.

Why, yes I do. But honestly I'd rather die than share my pencils with you, you go to this posh school, you should be able to afford a pencil, idiot. Is what I'd say if I had the guts, but I don't dare speak while Miss Chickpea is.

You might be wondering why I'm acting this way. I know. I should be thankful that he 'sAvEd mE' from those jocks but getting to know him, he's one of them and I won't allow myself to fall for any sort of "friendship". I know too well of real friendship...

**

Give me my lunch Zoe!" I scream, trying to free myself from the 2 boys that are holding me back.

I feel hopeless, alone and confused. Zoe and I were such good friends, we shared so many interests: Barbies, Monster High Dolls, dancing, humor and many other things. We were inseparable.

She pushes me over, I stop reminiscing and topple over, kids crowd around, some laugh, but one walks over to me.

Dark brown hair, falling on his face, deep, brown eyes, turns to Zoe and pushes her away.

"Stop it! she doesn't deserve this!" He yells, the boys leer closer, he hits one of them in the nose, crying out, they run away.

"Hey! You weren't apart of this anyways so go to you're mommy little boy!" Zoe yells at him. Tears welled in his eyes, but he wipes them away, he walks up to me, holding his hand out. "Don't listen to them." he says. I get up. "friends?" I say holding out my hand. The little boy pulls me into a hug.

"Friends."

~*~

The memory seems clear as day even 4 years later. I check my watch, *3:04*, I can just hold tight for one more minute. One. Measly. Minute.

"Hey Jane! Wait up!" Eli asks when we are walking down the hall. It feels nice knowing that I have someone to walk with me, It gets lonely you know? Even though I can be very rude at times.

"Uhh, well sure, let me check my schedule." I open my school book sarcastically. "Oh! I have no friends so I'm free, I'm all yours. not in that way though, you know what I mean." I brush the hair out of my face, feeling my cheeks heating up. Stupid, stupid, stupid! Stop rambling Jane.

He chuckles, "You know what?" he takes out a muslei bar from his pocket, ripping it open and taking a big bite.

"You're really sarcastic- and funny." He says through chews, swallowing, he wipes the crumbs frmo his mouth.

"That's why everyone doesn't want to be your friend; they're envious." I raise an eyebrow, the way he speaks to me sounds way too good to be true. He obviously sees my expression because he tries to give me a reassuring grin.

"B-but don't worry. I have it all planned out, I'll be your friend throughout this year-and next year." He explains, putting his hand on my shoulder as we come to a pause. I roll my eyes at the thought, I'd basically become a pet. But in a way, I should at least try and take my mum's advice, have empathy.

"On one condition." He states. "Okay, but the deal should not have anything to do with selling my body." I point out in an as-a-matter-of-factually tone.

He sniggers. "Obviously not! Okay I will only tell you if you shake on it. okay? do you trust me?" He holds out his hand, I stare at it, contemplatively.

I shake his hand and smile; "Deal."

"Okay, I want you to do my homework, assignments, and tutor me. Also I want you to do this to all my mates." He explains, the smile on my face falls and crashes onto the floor.

"I'm kidding, Jane! You look as if you took what I said seriously." He nervously laughs, looking at my expression intently. I slap my head and smile, stupid. "Ah, sorry. I'm just not used to.. Y'know-"

"Jokes?" He offers, I nod. He stands in front of me crouching down while grabbing my shoulders.

"You seriously need to get out more." I smile, dammit.

END OF CHAPTER

Hello there!

This chapter is quite short, as you can see i'm vErY good and making filler chapters.

I'm really on a roll with these edited chapters, I've got to say- at least.

Questions:

What are you hoping for in the next chapter?

Are you liking this book?

If you were Jane, what would you do?

Thank you, Bye!

I hope you enjoyed that chapter!

Btw hopefully i'll be adding some nice little chapters at Christmas and maybe even Halloween, They will be longer than the others since they do not add to the plot, so if you ship anyone then tell me and i'll make a chapter just for that.

Any other ideas on the story and if you want to be featured in this book then message me and I'll see what I can do.

Love you all!
