Chapter 7: Well... this is awkward
Jane's POV
I knew it. He never actually wanted to be friends, and I know I met him a few days ago, but I really thought he would be friends with me, he helped me when nobody was there, he smiled and wanted to be my friend.
Whatever I'm used to it.
I am walking down the hall to the exit door when I am tapped on the shoulder,
"Look Eli, you can calm down it's really fine that you like that piece of work even when you saw what she does to people, and it's fine that I might just want to hang out with you without her-" I turn to see a startled Amy and speechless Kevin.
"Oh it's only you guys, Sorry" I am startled to see Amy and Kevin standing there instead of Eli. There's an awkward pause as Amy and Kevin exchange glances, slowly turning to me. I smile like the little derp I feel like right now, As a conscientious teen girl, I seriously need to keep my emotions in check.
"Jane-" Amy starts, as Kevin butts in; "Jane-" Amy gestures him and they give each other a look.
"Do you like Eli?" They chime in sync, leaning in at my expression. My eyes widen in shock, shaking out of my shookedness (like that is a word) I smile awkwardly, holding my hands out in surrender.
"No! Oh no, I- Do I?" I ask, I was really thinking of lying to them, but as I've learned from books and my mother; Honesty is the best policy. Even if I look like an idiot, if they really want to be friends with me they should understand, right?
"I mean, It sounds like you do girl," Kevin says in an as-a-matter-of-factually tone, Amy nods in agreeance. I look down at the floor blankly, but before I go into a serious overthinking mode, Amy shakes my shoulders, grinning.
"Girl! The whole school is talking about the little scene at lunch, But don't worry. I-" Amy starts, Kevin coughs.
"I mean 'We', Can help you, let's say: Project play the player. I know my brother, I can tell he wanted to make a deal with you, use you and then throw you away. It may not seem like it, but trust me."
"I have a feeling you are different from the other girls he has known." She winks at me, knowingly, Kevin wiggles his eyebrows and smirks.
There's a pause before they burst out laughing, as do I. This is the reason I want friends; the inside jokes and fooling around.
"We can text you about the details, we'll talk over coffee and cookies, my favorite alliteration." Amy pulls out her phone from her purse. "Here" She hands it over to me and I type my number into it, I do the same for Kevin.
"Great! were one step closer to a beautiful blossoming friendship!" Kevin squeals and pulls us into a group hug. I smile to myself and hug them back, I get a sense of warmth and happiness around these guys.
I just wish Eli was here... Wait! stop brain!! I can't think of him like that; he's a player. I imagine myself pointing a fork at myself, anger flushed all over my face, I burst out laughing, Amy and Kevin join in. These are good friends to make, NOT Eli.
And at this moment, I feel a drop of hope in me.
~*~
Hope died nine minutes later.
As I'm walking home, I get a phone call from a private number, I furrow my brow. Maybe it's Amy? I usually don't answer private numbers but I feel like I should, so I do.
"Hello?" I put my phone to my ear, awaiting an answer, there's a few seconds of silence before I hear a small chuckle.
"Hey, I didn't think you'd answer." My ears deceive me, this isn't Amy.
