Karma and Akari were now in the nearby park. It was silent and peaceful, a perfect setting to have a little conversation.
Akari sat on the swing nearby a leafless sakura tree and started swinging it slowly
"Remember what I said a few days ago?" She started
"Yeah? What about it?"
Akari's face turned serious and faced him properly
"I... want to tell you the reason... why Makoto is very overprotective when it comes to Manami. "
Karma seriously nodded and sat on the empty swing beside her
"It all started a few years ago... When mom left me in the Okuda Family's care, where I grew up with Makoto and Manami. "

-Flashback-
Makoto's family was normal. Really. They had a kind dad, a loving mom. They were happy and complete.
But that changed when their mother died.
It was cancer, they said.
Their family changed. Mr. Okuda completely changed. Every night, he would come home late. He was either drunk and angry, or he would come home with a woman. He became violent. He would always hit Makoto every time he does something wrong. He even blames his children why his life was miserable.
"Oi Makoto!! What the f*ck is this shit?!"
"I-I'm s-sorry dad.... I might've added more sugar--
He grabbed Makoto's hair and hit him hard on the stomach.
"DIDN'T I TELL YOU TO DO YOUR ERRANDS PROPERLY?! CAN'T YOU DO A SIMPLE TASK LIKE THIS PROPERLY?!"
"B-but--"
He got hit again. It hurt so much that he could puke his guts out now.
I ran to Mr. Okuda and gave him the cup of coffee that he wanted
"M-Mr. Okuda.... h-here's the cup of coffee you wanted... please l-let go off Makoto now?" I asked. I was obviously scared and trembling at that time.
"Tch. Atleast you're useful in here. Well, you should be. Or else you'd be kicked out from this house a long time ago." He smirked, throwing down a barely conscious Makoto to the ground and then walked away.
"Makoto? " I shook him lightly. I was worried for him..
"Ugh. that damn old geezer" he gritted his teeth
"I-I'm sorry.."
"Hah? For what?"
"F-for... Not... being able to protect you...." I said, in between sobs
He just ruffled my hair and told me that it wasn't necessary.
"Onii-chan? " a groggy Manami called out from the door of their room.
"Ah, Nami-chii? Why are you awake this early in the morning?" He got up and smiled, ruffling the little ravenette's bedhead.... like nothing happened to him earlier
"Hungwyyy..."
He smiled and took out a box of cereals and prepared it for the three of us.
"Where's daddy?" Manami asked, taking a bite from the spoonful of plain cereals drenched in milk.
