"Okay children! Tomorrow will be career day, and you have to wear what you would want to be when you grow up!" The teacher in the classroom cheerfully said. The children around cheered and got excited about the event tomorrow.
"That also means that our parents needs to be here tomorrow right?" A kid asked excitedly
"Yes that's true Yoshino-kun.. I'm sure all of you will have fun tomorrow!"
"Yes teacher!!"
At the corner of the classroom sat a red-haired kid looking down at his feet.
"Parents need to come with us tomorrow.. huh...." he turned to look at other kids his age talking cheerfully with each other. How they were excited to wear their dream job costumes and show it to their parents.
"I wonder if they would come here if I told them to...." he silently thought to himself.
As he heard the school bell ring, he picked up his things and headed out the door.
"Akabane-kun never talks to us right Aya-chan?" He heard someone whisper
"I think he doesn't like us. And he doesn't have friends"
"...."
He ignored them and kept walking.
As he arrived home, he looked around the house for his parents.
"Not here huh.." he boredly said..
This is how it is. Always alone. His parents were always out on bussiness trips. He would barely meet them every night, and the next day they were gone again. They would send someone to look after him, but he pushes them away.
After cooking dinner for himself, he set the table an ate alone. He decided to wait for his parents so that he could invite them to the school event tomorrow.... even though he knew that they were too busy to have time for him.
6 hours had passed and it was already past 10:00, but he still waited there. Just when he decidef to go to sleep, he heard the car park outside. He hurried and opened up the door for them.
"Welcome back... mom..dad" he greeted them
"Oh.. Baby why are you still awake? It's past bedtime already" his mom said worriedlyand hugged the 8-year old little boy.
"Karma, you shouldn't stay up late.
It's not good for your health"
Karma just smiled and handed them a piece of paper
"Career day?" He looked at them expectantly
"Dear, we would love to go... but-
He knew it. They were busy... but he still wanted them to come.
"I...I understand" he turned around and ran to his room, stopping the tears that was about to escape his eyes
'I should have known.... it's always like this. Why did I even get my hopes up... I just wanted them to come with me tomorrow... but they are really busy.. I guess it would be unfair for them.. I guess I am... being too selfish?
Michiko and Taiga looked at each other with worried looks on their faces.. Then they noticed that there was food prepared for them. It was a simple omelette rice with 'mom' and 'dad' written with catsup on each plate.

It was career day and he boredly looked at his classmates who were wearing costumes. There were doctors, nurses, fire fighters, police men... and even an elephant.
He was wearing their school uniform.
"Akabane-kun? Why aren't you changing into your costume? "His teacher asked him
"Oh. This is what I will wear.. i don't need to change" he blankly said
"O-Ok.."
The children took turns and presented to the class what they want to be ten years into the future and brought their parents with them. It was Karma's turn now.
"Ok, Akabane-kun, what would you be ten years from now?"
"I'll still be a student ten years from now, if you think about it logically" he deadpanned
The whole room went quiet as he went back to his seat.

"Karma? We will be going to Kyoto now! What kind of souvenirs do you want?" His father asked excitedly
"I don't want anything" he blankly said
"O-Oh is that so?Then we'll bring home mochi! The best kinds yeah? Ok bye!" Then they drove out
"I said I didn't want anything. That old man.." he sighed
He was starting middle school at Kunugigaoka. He went through the classes and finally found his at class C. He plopped down at a random seat and looke out the window. It was spring and the sakura flowers looked as if it was shining because of how the sunlight shone on it
"I'm bored" he thought to himself
"H-Hello. Nice to meet you..." a girl(how karma perceived it) with long blue hair sat beside him
"Hm? Uh hi?"
"I'm Shiota Nagisa. Nice to meet you"
"Akabane Karma.. Karma's fine"
"Ok then Karma-kun.. you can call me by my first name too" she smiled
They became friends and he started hanging out with her
"Ne, Nagisa. I've been wondering for a while.. why are you wearing pants instead of a skirt? "
Nagisa looked at him blankly and blushed.. he face palmed..
"Oh.. I forgot to tell you... I'm a guy"
Karma blinked a few times and his eyes widened a bit
"Oh. So that's why.." (I saw you going in the men's comfort room without any hesitation)
He laughed a bit
"Really? Haha. We've been hanging out for 4 days and I never noticed."
"Don't worry. I'm used to it"
"Yeah. I think so too"
