I march into the cafeteria, intent on setting things straight. This is not the reputation I want. "Hey coke-whore!!" I yell to Karly. Half the room gets silent but I ignore them because I am beyond pissed at this point.
"You gonna be okay?" I see Troy ask in her ear. Karly nods and puts on a pained expression, like the sight of my face brings up some horrible memory.
"What do you want?" She asks like she's frightened.
"Oh please, drop the fucking Bambi act and tell everyone who you really are."
"Sutton, I think maybe you should go calm down somewhere. I'm not angry about what you did but I'd be happy if it didn't happen again."
"Are you kidding me right now? Troy, how can you of all people believe her right now? She was doing coke in your bathroom at your party."
"If you have to make things up to try to cover your inappropriate tracks from last night then I have no idea why I wanted to be with you in the first place," he replies.
"Oh my God, she's even got you under her spell too!! This is unbelievable!! How'd you do it, huh? How'd you get them all to believe this innocent doe-eyed facade? Did you poison the water supply? Pay them?"
"I think you're still a little drunk from last night. Maybe you should go home. Sleep it off, yeah?" Karly suggests.
"I'll admit, you're good. Maybe if I hadn't seen you in your real state the first time I saw you things would be different. But since I met you being the whore that you are I have the privilege of not being fucking brain-washed. I'm impressed, really, that you got this many people to believe you. I mean head cheerleader? Dating the new hottie? You've got your senior year on lock. But Troy, before you fuck this one I would have her get tested for STDs and also get a drug test done because while people can lie, test results can."
"Sutton, I really think you should go home," Karly says, standing up. "Or maybe even get some professional help. We all know how you have temper issues." I was about to go for one last punch to finish off last night but someone grabbed my arm and then another grabbed my waist. I then look back and see it's Carson and Cory.
"Come on, let's get you out of here," Addie says while Chelsea helps them restrain me.
Once we're back in the hallway I shake them all loose. "Get off of me."
"You need to calm down," Chelsea orders.
"I know. You're right. I'm just gonna go to the bathroom really quickly."
"We'll be waiting outside."
I walk in the bathroom doors and look in the mirror. My face is really red. Probably from all of the anger. I turn on the water and splash a little on my face. When I look back up Karly is standing behind me with her arms crossed over her body. "Shit," I gasp, startled by her appearance behind me.
"Let's get one thing straight. I own this school. People here adore me. When you were here, sure, you were the girl that was going to win a Olympic medal. I used to watch you like a hawk and pray you would leave early. Then, you did. So naturally I took my shot. Became head cheerleader, latched onto that brainless jock Troy and won over the school's heart. Then when you hit me last night I took it as the perfect opportunity to make sure no one remember Dear Sutton as the school's sweetheart. So I began stretching the truth a bit to my friends. Then they repeated it and then they repeated it and by 3rd period your reputation was trashed. It's funny how quickly stupid high schoolers are able to believe gossip they hear through the grapevine. So I just wanted to thank you for giving me what I needed. Oh and five minutes ago, that just added to my benefit so thanks for that too."
