Swiftly maneuvering around the sea of people, Rose makes her over to the compartment Sarah had directed her to moments ago. All her friends were out in the halls mingling with the other students but Rose recently bought a new book and she was particularly eager to get started on it as soon as possible. Sliding the door open, Rose entered the compartment swiftly before shutting it behind her and plopping herself down on the seat. She made herself comfortable, immediately opening the book and began reading the first page. Rose was so engrossed in the novel that it wasn't until she read through the first couple of pages did she realize she wasn't the only one in the compartment. Rose lifts her eyes momentarily from the page and was instantly met with a pair of grey ones. Scorpius Malfoy had been staring at her.
Startled, she let out a scream and dropped her book, which caused Scorpius to laugh.
Scowling, Rose bends down to retrieve her book. "It's not funny."
"It was a little funny, Weasel Princess," Scorpius managed to say once he stopped laughing.
Rose gritted her teeth at the hated name. "Must you call me that?"
"You can always give me a nickname to even out the scores," He suggested.
Rose snorts. "I only give nicknames to people I like and you certainly are not one of them."
Scorpius placed his hand over his chest. "I am hurt, Weasley, I truly am."
Rose rolls her eyes at his sarcastic tone. She kicks of her shoes before going back to reading, choosing to ignore him entirely. Scorpius watches as she tucks her legs underneath her, getting lost into the novel.
Realizing that she was no longer paying attention to him, Scorpius decided to study her. Her hair was a fiery-red that stood over her face like a halo. It balanced out well with her Caribbean eyes. A smile found its way onto Scorpius's lips. From the outside, no one would have thought that him and Rose were the best of friends during their first year at Hogwarts. She was the first friend that Scorpius made. She was the first person accept him for who he was and not look at the past. The only person who didn't judge him based on his family tree. Despite their family history Rose didn't care what people thought of him or care what people would think of her when she was with him. That first year was one of the best moments for Scorpius. They were inseparable; doing everything and anything together. Rose was his best friend and the only thing he looked forward to the following year.
Suddenly a frown takes over his features. But he made sure that they would never be friends again. Scorpius remembers the day all too well, despite his efforts to forget. It was holiday break, they were at the train station awaiting their parents' arrival. Lucius arrived to pick him up instead of his father. Scorpius feared the worst for Rose so he pushed her away. And in that moment, he knew why it was a bad idea to be friends with her, be associated with the Granger-Weasleys. He knew that their friendship would never be accepted. So, he did the one thing that he knew would guarantee termination of what they had. He insulted her in a way no wizard or muggle should be insulted. He regretted it the moment it slipped from his lips but he saw the devastation in her young eyes. He knew what he had done. Even at eleven years Scorpius knew he lost the best thing in his life.
When second year rolled in, Rose completely ignored him, denouncing his very existence. It hurt Scorpius more than anything, but he couldn't blame her. Besides, Malfoy's and Granger-Weasley's don't mix. It was an unspoken truth.
Rose stretches her legs, deciding to take a break from reading. She looked up and noticed Scorpius staring out the window. His entire face reeked with sadness and, for the life of her, Rose wanted to know why.
She pursued her lips, debating whether she should even get involved. It's probably something to do with Sarah or his family.
Before she could stop herself, Rose quietly blurts. "What's wrong?"
At his, Scorpius turned to look at her. He smirked but the sadness still lingered in his eyes. "I was just reminded of how we first met."
Rose furrowed her brows. "What? On the train?"
The smirk disappeared from his lips. "No, at Flourish and Blotts ten years ago."
Rose eyes widens. The tiny memory invaded her brain as she remembered. They did meet there. No wonder Scorpius looked so familiar on the train back in first year.
"I remember," Rose recalls. "I grabbed a book called-"
"Jack and the Beanstalk. I grabbed it before you did but we decided to read it together." He finished.
Rose stared at him. "But you told me that we never met and you knew all along."
Scorpius shrugs. "I said that because I knew who you were. I figured it'd be best to let you figure out who I was than to tell you."
Rose nods, getting quiet.
"We were so close back then," Scorpius whispers. Rose avoided his eyes. Why was Scorpius being like this? Why was he bringing it up? The memory for her was painful to think about. Yes, they were close, and yes, she once considered Scorpius to be one of her best friends at school but he made a chose and destroyed their friendship before it even begun. So, yes, once upon a time Scorpius meant the world to her, but that's not how things are anymore.
Eventually, Rose slowly lifts her eyes to meet his. Scorpius's stare was so intense that it made Rose uncomfortable, yet drew her in. Then something happened that has never happened before. Her heart skipped a beat. Rose didn't know why it did that, or what it felt the need to but it did. Rose concluded that the memory of it all pained her heart and that is all.
"Well, we both know why we aren't friends anymore." She grumbles, looking away.
Scorpius frowns again. "Every day I wish I could go back and change it."
Rose stares at him again. "Sometimes things can't be changed."
Scorpius does the unthinkable and grabs her hand. Rose stiffens at the sudden touch of his skin. "I wish-"
The sentence was cut short when the door to the compartment swung open. Scorpius immediately jerked his hand back and placed himself far enough away from Rose that it wouldn't look suspicious. Sarah walked in, along with Nora and Piper, and sat down next to him.
"Hey, babe," Sarah says to Scorpius.
"Hey, you," Scorpius smiles, sliding an arm around her before planting a kiss to her lips. And for the first time Rose felt angry, not at Scorpius but because he had kissed Sarah.
Not liking this new feeling, Rose stood up announcing that she was going to get something from the trolley. Rose raced down the hall until she felt she was far enough away from everybody, far enough away from him.
Something was going on with her and Rose didn't like it one bit.
Hi guys! Another day, another update! Hope you enjoyed this one. What is going on with Rose? I think she's been bitten by a... Scorpion. Get it?... I truly apologize for that! Haha!
General thoughts?
Until next time!
