Chapter 2

The once beautiful castle was now a mere disaster. The light brick that made the stairs that lead to the wooden double doors was now rubble at the end of the circle drive. The wooden door was busted down and the door frame cracked. There were holes in the bricks on the front side of the castle. You could see flames coming from the garden in the back. The sky seemed to cloud over and thunder cracked against the sky. It seemed to represent the emotions running through both Louis and I.

I looked over at him with my hand still over my mouth in shock. His eyes were pitch black with anger and he met my gaze. His jaw clenched and his hand squeezed the life out of mine, quite literally. "Stay here." I removed my hand and shook my head. "You really expect me to stay put with all of this going on?" I gestured to the ruins of the once gorgeous castle and kept my eyes locked with his.

A low growl rumbled in his chest and he flung the door open stomping around to my side and yanking my door open. I jumped out and stood defiantly in front of him with my hands clenched in fists at my sides. I could feel the anger swirling in my eyes making them a bright green almost representing the hulk. "You do not leave my side." I nodded in compromise with a slight smirk of accomplishment growing on my face. Louis walked towards the remains of the steps leading to the door. He jumped up swiftly and offered his hand, hoisting me up with ease.

My eyes widened and a small gasp escaped my lips as I took in the sight of the inside. Everything was strewn everywhere. Glass was broken, wallpaper ripped, tables flipped. There were multiple holes in the walls and doors were busted down. Louis cautiously walked forward with a firm grip on my hand to make sure that I followed behind him. My eyes darted everywhere taking all of it in. I could feel pain in my chest as the realization hit me that our home was destroyed. Our kingdom had fallen and we hadn't even been here to save it. The pain was soon replaced with anger at whoever had done this.

They will feel the wrath of me once I find them. They will be sorry that they were even born.

Louis led us to the garden where flames had been seen from the front of the castle. I could feel tears welling in my eyes as I remembered how beautiful this place had once been. Everything was now ruined. The hedges were chopped into pieces from swords, the flowers burned, the fountain was broken and had flooded the area around it.

"Where is everybody?" I quietly whispered while looking around. It seemed as though no one was still here and that sent unnerving chills down my spine as I knew how many people lived in the castle. Where was everyone? Were they alive? "I don't know." My breath hitched at Louis' words and I kept gazing around trying to spot some sort of movement, praying that maybe someone was still alive.

We kept making our way slowly towards where the flames were coming from and found ourselves lurking deep into the forest. Tears streamed down my face and I choked on a sob once I saw the source of the flames. Louis squeezed my hand and I choked on another sob as the lump in my throat rose and cut off air.

  This can't be possible.

  They are all gone.

  Gone.
