"Please, don't go."

Virgil's eyes welled up with tears as he watched the other man pack away his belongings. Just like a movie scene that he didn't want to be apart of.

"I'm sorry-"

"Don't say that because you aren't."

Roman sighed in frustration, slowly closing his suitcase. Regret formed in his eyes as he looked at Virgil, the sheets gripped in his hands. Tears rolling down his face. He just wanted to hug him and tell him everything would be okay.

But he couldn't because it wasn't.

"Why are you doing this?"

Virgil's eyes held anger and sadness. A roaring fire of emotions clawing at his insides. His face scrunched up in confusion. He didn't understand why his lover just decided to go. Everything was just how fairytales went.

No wonder they never told anyone what happened after. Because all that happened was heartbreak.

"Because. I can't stay here."

Roman huffed, grabbing his bags and placing them at the doors edge. He just needed to turn the knob and leave. But he couldn't bring himself to do it.

Was he really going to do this?

"Why? I thought we were happy. Roman. I can't lose you again."

Again

"Virgil. I just-"

Roman couldn't form the words. His heart yearned to stay, but it wasn't right. Yes, they loved each other, but what they had. Wasn't right, it's toxic and unhealthy.

If you run away, why would you come back again?

"You just what? Don't pull the 'I don't want to hurt you' or 'You deserve better' shit. I fell for it once too many times. Not again. Tell me why you are leaving. Please, Roman. Please."

Please

"Virgil, I love you-"

"If you loved me, then why are you leaving."

Roman looked at Virgil, their eyes
meeting for the first time in hours. Their eyes held love. They both knew very well.

But, right now there was only pain and sadness. The red string of fate being held together by just one strand.
Desperately trying to hang on to anything. Any sense of love or care. Anything.

That it won't find. The string had been twisted and turned, but never broken. Just a slam of a door, the wood hitting the wall, will break their red string of fate.

Even false hope may save them once again. But that was only a dream that will never come true.

"This isn't good for us-"

"Then what is, Roman? I'm sick of losing soulmates. I found you. And I love you. And I know you do, too. So stop ignoring it and answer my question-

A shaky sigh released into the air.

Why are you leaving?"

Roman stepped up to Virgil, caressing the side of his face. He wiped a tear falling from the corner of his eye.

"Because Virgil, I know that the love we had was real. But now, I don't feel it. And it's not healthy. Our friends see it. And I see it. So I need you to. I'm sorry, Virgil-

Roman stepped away, grabbing his bags and opening the door.

But just know that I loved you."

Loved

And then he was gone, as well was the false sense of hope that Virgil had.
